this guy is rather high strung so if he thinks its good news, that's good news

Topher has a maddening obsession with the twitter siren. That said, even though I bashed him for the 'McCain flipped' thing (realistically media coverage post skinny is entirely to blame for the idea McCain defeated repeal) but to his credit he figured what was up a little earlier than a lot of people. Which was still pretty drat late.

I thought that's what Kennedy was trying to put in an amendment because it wasn't in there.

Yeah, the Kennedy amendment is what would remove the ability for states to set up single-payer systems.

Avelere Health, which contributed to BCRA planning, has a study on the new bill. It sucks hard for everyone, including Alaska and Arizona. That's probably the best we're going to get without a CBO score. Don't know if it will get Murkowski to stop giving Cassidy the benefit of the doubt.

Just listened to Rand Paul bitch about the Graham-Cassidy bill on NPR. He avoided answering a direct question on whether his No is set in stone, but at least he's still going at it.

So we have Collins a near definitive No.
Murkowski an unclear but leaning No.
McCain an unclear.
And 2 or 3 unclears in Medicaid heavy states like West Virginia.

Way too early to tell. Call these people up!

Apparently Graham's still having to put in effort with McCain.

This the only noteworthy development on the Graham-Cassidy bill today, unless I missed something. Murkowski continues to be worked on. She said back in June she wouldn't let them "get" her through deals like this that are favorable to Alaska but leave a nationwide healthcare system worse as a whole.

Of course, using that statement to predict her ultimate decision would assume she sticks to principles, which the GOP generally does not have, and that she cannot be bought out, which the GOP generally can.

I'm waiting for Rand Paul to announce he changed his mind, maybe next week? He need not worry about looking like a jackass. One week is long time in 2017 time.

Yes, you did miss something. That's not the deal or a deal, it's one of those ideas along with federal Medicaid adjustments getting floated around as lures rather than concrete proposals for Murkowski. This is an instance where reporters are playing a game of telephone and we get 'Alaska gets its own ACA' as a result.

There's a bunch of buzz about Rand Paul negotiating now, though his demands are unlikely to be met. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a brand-new bill makes it to the floor to satisfy him like the Skinny Repeal approach. Basically they're banking on Murkowski caving to Graham-Cassidy and then staying on board for whatever comes next.

That buzz is Paul saying, to paraphrase, that G-C would have to no longer be G-C for him to vote on it. So yeah, that post on the last page about introducing a new bill tomorrow is kind of relevant.

To update: said bribes for Alaska and Maine are 3% and 43% increases in federal funding respectively, both of which seem hilariously insufficient.

Now for the part where they tacked in a bunch of stupid, insane bullshit.

Is there any chance Moore loses in the general? I mean, it's Alabama, so I'm assuming no, but I haven't heard anything about the Democratic challenger.

Doug Jones is the guy in that race, and he's running on a surprisingly good, broadly social democrat platform - green energy, livable wage, improving the k-12 education, that sort of thing. Putting aside whether there's a chance of winning Alabama on the merits of the state itself, I'm still somewhat worried if he'll receive the necessary funding from the national democratic organizations, and Perez fills me with the opposite of confidence in that regard. Beyond the fact it's a senate seat in play, Moore becoming a part of the senate feels like one of those watershed moments that should be avoided at all costs.

This whole thing being about taxes somehow doesn't detract from an open, explicit confession from sitting senators that they have no idea what they're doing and expected everyone else to do the work for them.

OK, so let's pretend Trump correctly said guy is recuperating at home. Are you telling me ACA repeal didn't happen because a GOP Senator has been sick and couldn't vote? This is true? Holy poo poo. Can't believe this was never brought up.

The amount of pretending required would rupture a hole in reality and liberate us all from this farcical life.
