They buy into the horror-stories about other country's health care. My dad's favorite talking point is that apparently the British system doesn't cover knee replacements for the elderly. Which apparently is bullshit because the NHS website claims that most knee replacements are performed on people between 60 and 80 years old. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Knee-replacement/Pages/Kneereplacementexplained.aspx

So, watching Paul Ryan on CNN. He wants getting healthcare to be like shopping for a car. Like it wasn't bad enough to start with.

He also suggested that the Federal government subsidize individual states to cover people with pre-existing conditions. This means that people without pre-existing conditions won't have to subsidize them. But that sounds to me like they will be through their Federal Taxes, which makes me ask the question, why not just make the whole thing Federally funded?

Brainiac Five posted:No, I'm not, because I support UHC but also don't believe that my fellow LGBT people are bourgeois degenerates, so I obviously am aware that the greasy Strasserites who whine about "identity politics" and call it "IDPol" are representative of nothing but people's desire to reconcile bigotry with the little bits of morality their parents managed to beat into them. You never actually propose anything, you just insult people who do. What's your master plan for making healthcare available for everyone?

tetrapyloctomy posted:100% the weapons and ammunition manufacturers -- as well as the individual people who sold him that much ammunition -- should be on the hook for the repercussions, in the same way that a bar owner who continues to serve a clearly intoxicated client and then allows him to drive home is liable. So naturally there is a law preventing it! Should car manufacturers be on the hook for vehicular manslaughter?

Best quote: "NYU's Caplan found the idea of sending money to patients ludicrous. "You're going to be giving out these sums of money that a lot of people never see in a year and tell them their duty is to shift it over to the out-of-network service provider?" he said. "You can't be serious."" They are close to stating that medical bills are far out of proportion compared to what people make.
