sakura quest's premise doesnt sound fantastic but it shares some staff with shirobako and comes from the same pa works initiative to make anime about daily working life that got us shirobako and iroha, so i have some hope that it'll actually go into working in a tourism agency.

Kind of surprised that Souryo to Majiwaru is even showing up in the season listings. The source material is straight-up porn.
a work having explicit sex doesn't make it porn, what makes it porn is how that sex is framed. i havent read the original but it runs in a josei magazine and seems to have some kind of plot and drama to it, which makes me think it's a drama where a lot of the drama comes from sex and sexual relationships, not a thing where people gently caress because loving is hot.

Aoi Yuuki as Kino, replacing Ai Maeda. No mention of studio or director. The director of the original anime passed away in 2013, and A.C.G.T. hasn't made an anime of their own since 2013 (their two anime since, dai-shogun and girls cycling club, were collabs with J.C. Staff,) so those will have replacements as well.

Kutori really is the only one of the girls who has any romantic feelings for the main character, and she's the oldest of them.
A 14-15 year old girl crushing on an authority figure really isn't all that unbelieb, doubly so if the guy really is only 4 years older than her (unless you count the 500+ years he was petrified).
And when he realizes what's going on, he goes to the other adult around and has this conversation:

And after that, he talks to the girl, who was basically prepared to suicide bomb herself in the next battle:

the way it keeps emphasizing 'opposite gender' is pretty lol

I think it can be handy when used to mean 'aspiring to depth and profundity that your writing quality can't handle'. I mean, that's subjective, but so are most terms used to criticise literature.

i think everything should aspire to some kind of depth and profundity, even if its' telling a simple story or story isn't the main focus of the endeavor. stuff that tries and fails is interesting, not pretentious.

a scene that started so strong too....
really that entire scene was kind of dumb. it's just characters spouting philosophy at each other in an unnatural way and then hundred-faced hassan pops out for literally no reason and gets owned by iskander for literally no reason. and i can understand why gil wouldn't bother lifting a finger but you'd think saber would fight off the assassins instead of just sitting there. really the assassins being an actual threat and the three of them working together to defeat them would have capped off that scene better and in a more interesting way.

Fangz posted:

UBW was definitely a weaker show than Fate/Zero.

Shirou's character is potentially deep and nuanced but the adaptation (if not the original game as well) portrays that really poorly. The adaptation should have been much less faithful.

(Like, when I played the game, I thought I actually knew what was going on in that climactic Archer/Shirou scene, but now I don't even know any more. Wasn't the original confrontation about whether or not self-sacrifice for an ideal makes sense?)
it was more about whether something flawed and impossible is still worth trying to achieve. that said, i agree that the ubw anime is a pretty messy adaptation. it's too faithful when it needs to be looser, it doesn't really take into account that it's adapting from a visual novel and so needs to incorporate more character movement into dialogue scenes/trim some of the fat of the exposition (a character talking for a long time is much more palatable in a vn than in an anime, since you can read at your own pace in a vn), and for some reason gets really loose when being faithful would actually be a good idea. Adding a bunch of CG and poo poo to the archer/shirou fight completely ruins it. The fact that it's just them having a swordfight, Archer's skill against Shirou's skill, is the entire point. The Shirou/Gilgamesh fight is a ltitle better, but they still went really overboard on the flipping around. I'd honestly say the DEEN movie adapted those two scenes better.

the thing that completely goes against all the themes of the actual core of the franchise and is terribly written, is definitely the best entry point to the series, instead of the thing that came first, is a pretty decent and enjoyable read, and actually communicates what the franchise is about very clearly

if you don't enjoy the format after giving it a shot you could try the ufotable ubw anime, though it kinda sticks too rigidly to the VN in places so there's lots of scenes of characters just sitting around talking.
