The scenes where Hiddleston is suddenly an action hero are so jarring because he basically does nothing for 80% of the movie.

Yeah it feels super clumsy and unearned in that scene. I feel like they could've simply removed or reduced the two "leads" and it wouldn't particularly damage the film. But, I guess hollywood needs to have two very attractive leads who might kiss in every single movie.

I'm not certain they were written with a view to be carried across to other films - next time Kong appears will be v. Godzilla and that's presumably set in around 2020, making those characters very, very old when that happens.
