my favorite KDE bug is coming up on 10 years in a while :allears:

introduced in 4.3 around 2009, KDE is no longer capable of mapping global hotkeys to any numberpad key, including /*-+

this breaks all kinds of workflows, and so far the only input from a KDE dev has been this:

quote:

If you find a programmer who understands keyboard internals of X11/xkbd, Qt4/xlib, Qt5 /xcb, and kdelibs/khotkeys/kglobalaccel, then please direct him here.

i'd put a hundred bucks on that being bc all that garbage is software-rendered because the open-source linux graphics card drivers are poo poo trash and broken all the time and the semi-decent ones from nvidia are not available by default because they're not ~free as in freedom~

and there is little doubt that it is pretty good precisely because it represents a long-standing effort to break with a lot of really stupid poo poo that was enshrined as the linux way to do things in ages past

still not on any kind of even footing with osx or even windows, but it is not nearly as much a matter of a system for people who love to janitor their computers, or suck the dicks of idiots who designed terrible systems in the 70s/80s, or just having stockholm syndrome after having tinkered with the system for too long

also satisfying as it makes ubuntu look all the more like trash while expending less effort tweaking the system about

did that, was a learning experience. used a live-cd in dad's faster PC so I could use distcc and spend a little less time waiting for the next compilation error.

tried it on a laptop years later, forgot a kernel mod so the thing would overheat and shut down. solution was to compile kernel mod while holding laptop over AC unit.
