Hello Goons, Two months ago, after twenty something years of living (pretty uncomfortably) as a male, I read up about trans people. Also, I found out that I had most of the symptoms that formerly closeted trans people had when they were closeted. Okay, by most I mean pretty much loving all of them. So I came out, and life has been getting better. I smile more, I get things done during the day, colors are getting brighter, and life is just going in the direction I want it to. Slowly, I'm becoming the person I want to be. Okay, whatever, what does this mean for you? "What do I get, woman?" you must be saying. Well, you get to have questions answered by me! If I don't feel comfortable answering a question or I don't feel like I have enough info to do so, I'll let you know. Don't expect me to speak for men who are transitioning (Female to Males), or about people who identify as neither male or female also haha. POOL IS CLOSED posted:self discovery is an amazing thing! what kind of resources did you look into? Manifisto posted:I'm sort of curious about the symptoms you mention. I googled it a bit and found some stuff, but it's a little hard for me to tell what is anecdotal vs. stuff that's been examined in a systematic way. Is there a particular resource you found helpful? Also, do you have any idea whether the symptoms are similar or different to being closeted and gay? Unfortunately I can't say I found any systematically identified symptoms outside of depression, low self-esteem, and being dysphoric (and even then dysphoria is hardly defined scientifically). That being said, the biggest resources I had were a therapist and a friend who has already been through the process. Generally speaking, it wasn't a coincidence that I always had more than a passing interest in what it would be like to be a woman, and that I liked wearing my sister's old clothes. I wish I could be of more help on this question |

Told my immediate family, they took it pretty well but Dad was slow to warm up to it. Told my pinko friends and they all took it really well which wasn't a surprise. The only thing left is to tell my ultra Christian extended family and Ima wait until I can't look like a dude anymore before I do that lol |

SHY NUDIST GRRL posted:Op have you started transitioning? How demanding is it? I have started transitioning socially, but the medical portion takes a while to get started. I got blood work done to test my hormone levels and I'll be seeing an endocrinologist on May 2nd, but until then I'm just waiting Socially transitioning isn't too demanding in my experience, but again I have a very accepting group of friends who encourage me to dress like I want (really girly girl like). The only things I have to do is make sure to go out in boy mode when I'm going somewhere unfamiliar or somewhere alone (including places like the library). As far as the whole medical costs thing goes, it really depends on your insurance status and how dysphoric you feel. I'm lucky for going into grad school, because the two schools I'm thinking about both have great coverage medically (to the point that sex reassignment surgery would inly be about $3000). Although, many trans people are simply happy with taking hormones (which can cost less than $600 a year even paying out of pocket), or not taking hormones at all! TBH I wish I was that way, but whenever I look in the mirror I know who I want to be looking back at me. She has an hourglass figure, long red hair (like mine but to my shoulders), and she is happy with herself. |

I am currently single and have been for a little while, but I have a friend who is close enough that we cuddle and stuff. As far as dating goes though, I'm going to wait on that for a little while. No I haven't, but that is actually a rather interesting question. I mean, identity is both internal and performative at the same time, and I feel like dysphoria comes about when those two aspects don't align. I'm not really going to watch the specials because of what I've heard, but if someone asked me that personally I would just ask they use my pronouns. That said I was disappointed by Dave, he has some really good anti-capitalist and anti-racist material. I don't want to think he's against trans people. alnilam posted:twerk have you ever ridden on a train and if so where and was it cool I went on that train that goes under the English channel! Also I honestly have no idea why people are so obsessed with cars. I mean, I've never really found driving fun except in Mario Kart, and when you're on a train you can just sit back and read or doze off. I guess that's why I like flying too though. |

So take cda's comment seriously, but also understand that you can find cool and good cis ppl (in terms of dating) if you look in the right circles. Specifically I'm talking about activist groups that are trans-inclusive. That being said, if you don't want to do that then I dunno how to help because my experience is anecdotal |
