Just watched the Niles heart surgery threeparter. It was actually sweeter than I remembered and not poo poo as implied in this very thread.

What I found the strangest about Roz's behavior in the season 10 finale is that she went SO berserk and gave the ultimatum to Frasier. In the rest of the show she always seems fairly collected and I just felt that moment was really out of character for her.

Just finished the series finale. After Frasier, Seinfeld and News Radio I'd really like to know what other older shows are equally good

Cam Winston was the character where I most felt they dropped the ball. Daphne's family has been dull without exception, but I really enjoyed the "nemesis" aspect of Cam. It's doubly annoying because Martin's dealings with Cam's mom would have been a great counterpoint. Family dinners where Frasier and Cam would have to pretend to get along, etc. A shame.

It's baffling why the writers or producers felt these characters just *had* *to* *keep* *appearing*.

I don't know if this was already mentioned but one of Frasier's writers has a blog where he shares a whole bunch of anecdotes, like this.

Indeed. The fact that we got so little of Cam Winston and so much of Daphne's family was poor judgement on the writers' part.

The really farcical episodes like the ski lodge episode are really well-constructed, where every element is funny in and of itself, but also builds up the larger whole. The only other 90s sitcoms that did this were perhaps later Seinfeld seasons and some parts of NewsRadio.

The Amiga version was a platformer though. Weirdly, Frasier's apartment was the largest level. Every time you thought you saw all rooms there would be a new one just around the corner.

Related question, is Cheers still watchable or is it too cringey due to Ted Danson's Sam "fun rapist vibe"? [1] [1] Also related: Ever since Curb your Enthusiasm, I can't think of Ted Danson without hearing Larry David say "Mary Steenburgen".

Marty wins a free boat trip on what Niles assumes to be a luxury yacht. He tags along with Martin for a day trip that turns out to be on a trawler. Martin falls overboard and, atlhough the fishermen manage to bring him back aboard, it is up to Niles to revive him, allowing them to bond. Frasier, meanwhile, feuds with a seaside cartoonist that accentuated the wrong parts of his face.
