because they value completely different things from the rural poor op

the only thing worse than liberals who blame the rural poor for trump is the rural poor who blame the urban poor for their poverty

because they think the country consists entirely of the wealthy areas of about ten cities

everyone does this

conservatives seem to have a mental compartment labelled "coastal liberal elite" which would refer (to a sane person) to like banking and tech elites, but actually includes everyone who either
1) lives in a place w/ jobs
2) reads a book that isn't the bible more than once a year
3) has a college degree, especially one that isn't related to business or medicine

and with conservatives and liberals both living in warped realities, what remains are fascists and leftists

95% of the leftists do, in fact, live in about ten cities

the people who voted in Trump weren't drug addicts making $20k, they were well-off white tradesmen with pensions worried that their kids might have to go off to the godless cities to find well-paying work instead of walking into a $70k factory job right out of high school. middle-income whites went for Trump at a significantly higher rate than low-income whites

rural poverty is a real problem, but it tends to be greatly exaggerated by some and heavily minimized by others, because it's popularly associated with white people (even though the rural poor are disproportionately non-white) and thus appeals to a variety of agendas

^^^

also re: the op the reason I still vote for democrats to defeat republicans even though they're lovely fake leftists is because democrats for the most part aren't interested in legislation that explicitly oppresses me on the basis of my identity on top of everything else

I hope that is ideologically acceptable

As long as you remember that they don't actually give a gently caress about your identity, that seems fair. Obama and Clinton thought gays were subhubman freaks until a few years ago, so I guess that's better than someone who still thinks this.

it's political opportunism on all sides (a lot of republicans outside of freaks like pence and huckabee don't hate gays either), but the people Trying to gently caress Me Over in Two Ways are worse than the people Trying to gently caress Me Over in One Way

it's pretty simple

Poor people are more likely to choose Jesus or total disbelief in the system, both of which pisses Liberals off.

they don't get mad because they Hate Jesus, they get mad because "choosing jesus" in the US just means becoming a republican or fascist bc right-wing politics own american (white) christian identity

as an aside I think it's astounding that there are ppl on this forum and probably itt who take it as axiomatic that people on the trans spectrum or w/e are inherently repulsive, while simultaneously not getting how someone can hate poor people

nobody likes poor people, including a lot of poor people; poor people constantly need financial help, dress and eat poorly, are less healthy, less educated, etc etc etc

liberals hate poor people for the same reason everybody else does, which is that many of them are repellent; liberals are just more forthright about it because they're more concerned with aesthetics than socialists and the far right, and they have fewer other people to spread their hate around to (whereas the us far right, for example, hates pretty much everybody including each other). the foundation of social science is the belief that we're products of our environment, and study after study after study has shown that poverty has negative consequences on basically every physical and mental quality of a human being

here's the punchline tho: this is precisely why nobody deserves to live in poverty

this is why you become a leftist in the first place, why you fight for economic justice, etc because poverty is loving gross and inhumane, and the myth that it's somehow ennobling and aggrandizing is one of the vilest lies in american mythology

in other words, turn their hatred of poor people into passion for economic justice lmao

also hope no1 construes that as transphobic bc I love gender slayers, it's just ironic/funny that there are a couple of trump dweebs and even hardcore "idpol is aids" people on this forum who are aghast at the idea of hating poor people but think hating queers is like, natural, because it just makes sense that normies wouldn't get it

I guess my post would make more sense if I didn't use hate and amended it w/ the point that I disagree with the thread's fundamental premise that any majority or reasonable minority of ppl who identify as liberals "hate" the poor

they are lots of bad things at them like "callous" and "indifferent", they may be afraid of them or repulsed by them, but none of that is the same thing as "hate", nor is liberals hating trump voters or rural whites the same thing as liberals hating "poor people"
