Bird in a Blender posted:Balks are good because it's a funny sounding word and I get to yell it at the ump anytime the opposing pitcher throws to first. No, I don't know how to describe a balk. I explain balks the same way I explain icing in hockey: it has a clear definition and rules behind it, but for some reason the officials have the power to arbitrarily decide somebody doing it doesn't get called for it which makes it seem much more confusing than it really is.
