Rat catcher is an old and legit medieval job. There are still people in India that are ''rat catchers.'' Do you all think that pest control and exterminators are new professions?

Not everything is a reference to Warhammer you goddamn dorks.

Goblins in Tolkien poo poo ride wolves too. Same with orcs eating mushrooms and wearing black armor.

P sure the devs are giant European history nerds and wanted to make a game to reflect that interest. Idk maybe I am wrong but that is what I get from their let's plays

Maybe they fully intended to ape some other IPs lore or mechanics.

What kind of retard thought appropriate level 2 contracts for my party of level 3 and 4 peasants involved necrosavants? There are barely any level 1 contracts to level up on, you have to slowly, slowly, slowly wander across the world map going town by town in the hope they have any contracts. And all the while time is working against you to pit more and more overpowered enemies against your crew of fucktards that can't hit anything and get 1 shot by anything with a bigger dick than gwyneth paltrow. I must be, because the next town had an almost identical poo poo contract and it is, once again, a complete clusterfuck. 2 necrosavants killed 4 troops and made another run away after I'd finally ground down 7 skeletons, who individually can solo my lovely mercs.

Don't take escort or delivery missions. They are too easy to complete, little to zero merc xp, and give a lot of renown which then increases contract difficulty.

Flails suck because they're garbage against higher armor orcs. Same goes for cleavers because the undead don't bleed. Warhammers are great because it has swipe like the Greatsword but it also staggers everyone that it hits, which sends been to the end of the turn order. Also the Warhammer destroys armor better than Greatsword.

I keep Warhammer wielder on each flank. A great sword wielder next to them, with Shield guys in the middle. My entire backline has warbows and warscythes to swap to once melee has begun.

Nothing like taking out an army of orc warriors, a few warlords, and a plethora of beserkers without taking a single casualty. Because everyone has overwhelm and all the tough units are staggered and without armor.

Flails crush skulls = fatality = no more undead re-rising.

But apart from tha, I love keeping a flail guy around for the flavor and brutality of it. There's something sickening and horrifying about facing an opponent whose only unrelenting pursuit is to crush your and your comrades' heads with a morning star.

Warhammers do that and actually destroy armor. Flails are garbage because they suck at killing orcs.

Cleavers are great v undead. The bleed isnt the point, you can pop heads off which is a kill.

I rather use weapons that can kill multiple targets per attack. Even the two hand cleavers can't do that. Also the damage is poo poo. If you want fatality to negate possible reanimation then just find a guy with blood thirty and give that guy a two hander.

So I got home from work and decided to play a bit. Got a patrol job and found a big pack of bandits.

Moments like this are when Footwork pays for itself. The two with the cleaver and cudgel had tried to block my man in the fancy hat.

So satisfying.

And then, finishing that patrol got me a Safe Roads bonus, which topped with the Well Supplied bonus I'd landed earlier gave me, well, a new dilemma:

So now if I sold every single weapon and item I've been hoarding in storage for emergencies and took a few pieces off some men and let them chill in the reserves in their skivvies I could, conceivably, snag that carapace. I mean that beast is like +80 hit points compared to a standard coat of plates while also being 6 points lighter. Alternatively, I could snag the two lighter pieces and keep one on one of my backliners and the other on my Nimble two-hand tank, since it's basically a mail hauberk but better in every way and he's been rocking a 40+% Nimble chance even in a hauberk. Having those would help me qualify for that "Have five named items" ambition when it comes up, and the achievement too?

With the gear you have, and I assume levels, how could you ever think you would lose that fight or even have a guy go down?

That is a group of bandits you face on day 9 on Expert when you only have gambson and like 8 dudes all below of lv 4.

Only thing that feels sort of unfinished to me right now is your reputation as a whole, on a 220 day game where I've pretty consistently chosen the "good" options for lack of better work, I'm still at neutral and getting the occasional "kill these peasants and leave none alive" contract offers which I generally refuse. I haven't gotten a good negative reputation campaign really going, but is there at all any noticable effects to it for any of you guys yet?

Never negotiate and never refuse missions from nobles if you want to ally.

Battle Brothers, unlike XCOM, doesn't fudge the to hit chance numbers on favor of the player. In XCOM when you have an 85% chance to hit, you really have 95% chance or something.

Now it's day twenty and I roll over everything on veteran ironman with a frontline of lumber axes. Everyone is in good mail and I just bought my first greatsword. Two-handed/knife supremacy

Just wait till you get your first two skull greenskin contract.

I just started a new save, did the tutorial mission and then killed Hogger. I took my first contract, a caravan escort that barely paid anything, because I couldn't find any contracts in the area I was in.

The caravan got attacked by orcs on Day 2, 4 Orc Young and 2 Orc Berserkers. The Berserkers each killed one of my guys on the second turn and all I had left was an archer, a 2 handed axe user, and 4 plainclothes guys with daggers.

Somehow I won without any other deaths and one of the berserkers dropped their 90-120 damage 2h axe

Of course I forgot I have autoloot turned off and immediately forgot to loot it. And I'm on ironman so I can't reload :(

That axe is common to get and you need a guy with a poo poo ton fatigue to make use of it anyway.
