So I got a few Direwolf mail armors from a certain event, are they exclusive to that event only, as I haven't actually seen them anywhere else...

You don't need 2h for goblins, but getting a heavy trooper into the middle of their pack and just chopping away is pretty fun.

Well, if your dudes get killed during an undead invasion, they can play as undead on their own, at least.

I'd love to see goblin/Orc/Undead campaigns tbh, although it probably wouldn't fit with the nature of the game.

Nothing like starting a new game, getting a 4-raider hideout from a 1-skull mission, and getting 3 Flails by day 4.

Some direwolf mail armors and a rad wolfhead helmet about 20 days into the run, got a good feeling about this one.

Fighting 30+ sized undead hideouts is still incredibly boring.

The easiest answer is that good armor makes a lot of difference. Once you get to the level where you can break the enemy before your team suffers too many injuries, you can really begin snowballing.

Broken Cog

Sure, and then you get an Undead Hero that rolls 95+ on dodge three times in a row and decapitates 3 people in a single swing, each at <20 hit chance.

This might have happened earlier.

Those things will always happen here and there, but not every fight to the point where you can't even manage to keep your people in fighting shape, unless you're putting yourself in situations that allow it to.

Yeah yeah, I just wanted to vent about that one, it's not a common occurrence. Thing was that, as you can see from the numbers, I had set up to minimize RNG, and still got screwed over pretty handily.

Should have taken a screenshot, but I might have rage-Alt F4'd out of that fight.

Yeah, some of the guides I've tried to read have been people using perfectly rolled veteran level 20 characters as examples of "good recruit", which is cool, but kinda useless for normal play.

FilthyRobot seemed to have reasonable numbers in his guides when I looked through them, at least.

Got attacked by a group of 6 raiders on day 3 on veteran. That's... not normal.

Ah well, lesson learned, never take escort missions :v:

Tempted to do an all dagger run. Probably a terrible idea, but it sounds like a fun gimmick against orcs or similarly heavily armored groups.

They're worse than swamps.

You're completely at the mercy of the RNG for the layout though, and God help you if you're fighting undead, and the necromancer/Ghasts spawn in areas that are almost impossible to reach or shoot at.

Had a tavern rumour tell about "A magical lake to the north, surrounded by strange animals". Is that just trivia or is it an actual location? Went looking, but couldn't find anything.

Also, the "There is a legendary item somewhere a long way from here" is the most worthless tavern rumor.

Any reason not to recruit Bastards? They seem to be almost on par with sellswords most of the time, and cost a fraction of the price.

Also, are there any backgrounds you should just flat out try to avoid solely because of events? I've never recruited a Killer on the Run again after I got an event where (I think) he killed one of my other Brothers.

Edit: I'd also like to say I'm not really a fan of how the enemy seems to magically know who your weakest dudes are, and rush straight for them. Makes it a bit hard to train up new recruits in the lategame.

Figured I'd try a run with 4 archers with Crippling Strikes, and have my frontline use Executioner.
Would crossbows be better than normal bows for this?

Also yeah, I know undead is gonna be an issue.

Is it possible to increase your reputation over the starting value?
I'm assuming it decreases if you raid/do raiding or pillaging missions, but since I never like to play like that, I never really see it change.

Edit: Decreases, not increases

I see they still haven't fixed peasants magically escaping turn 1 during a raze location mission.

Never take these missions, they're not worth it.

Edit: Can you actually recruit the horse fucker? Every time I've cut him down so far he's just broken his neck and died.

So hey is there anything I should be doing to find the renowned gear or is it just random? My slaughtered company had a special heater shield but I never found another, is buying them the best way to get them?

Buy drinks at a local tavern now and then and you'll sometimes get a lead. Other than that it's pretty random.
Big camps usually have at least 1, but they're hard to take on.

Usually when you start out you can take 1-2 battles before you have to head back, but when you get some good armor/enough Brothers to cycle out when someone gets hurt, you can stay out there for as long as your rations and tools last.

I usually start looking for huts/ruins around day 15-25 depending on how well the earlygame goes.

Edit: also, if you get a mission that has a head count, you can raid a ruin, and it will count enemies killed there for the bonus.

Speaking of Noble war, the ambush at the farm event is pretty rough before you've got a top tier band.
10 top tier Mercenaries surrounding your company to start off, often with a Master Archer or Swordmaster thrown into the mix.

Edit: On the positive side, if you manage to pull through, you can get a shitload of great gear.

So I took a 800g 2-skull goblin mission around midgame (day 45 or so), and it was in an abandoned hut, so I figured it wouldn't be too hard. But when I reached the destination, I got a message about an ambush, and got put in a surrounded position against 22 goblins, 10 of which were wolf riders that could reach my archers on turn 1.

That's a pretty straightforward way of saying gently caress you to the player I guess.

I'd like to point out that good archers absolutely destroy goblins due to their weak armor and low hp. At 90+ skill you usually have a 40-50% chance to hit on ambushers, and you can one-two shot them based on if you hit their head or body.

That is, unless you get ambushed, of course.

Got an event I hadn't seen before.
Met an army of kids on the road, said they were going north to spread the word of the old gods. I just told them they should go home to their parents, but they laughed at me and went on their way.

I get that this is probably supposed to be a reference to the Children's Crusade, but can you get anything from this event if you choose any of the other options?

Thanks, guess I'm getting a greatsword up and running as soon as possible for my next run, makes clearing out Wiedergangers much easier early on.

Also discovered that Necros can't raise undead if you sit on them, so if you're continuously moving forwards, you can hamper his army a bit.

This is incorrect, they'll push your dudes off if they get raised.

Destroying or severing the head permakills normal zombies, though. Just not Fallen Heroes. (but that "steal their weapon" trick I might use)

That's if they raise themselves, which they can only do once, the necro can raise them indefinitely as long as they're not decapitated.
