Great OP! I have one nitpick, though: It's not just a 'gritty fantasy world', it's a blatant and well-done homage to the Old World in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, right down to principal enemies being orcs and undead, greenskins doing mushrooms and riding wolves, and nobles asking you to 'hunt gobbos'.

It's not all it is, a lot of it is also a realistic portrayal of median age medieval life, but it bears mentioning IMO.

Yeah. I'm willing to accept "ratcatcher" as a nod to Warhammer, but that's it.

For content: The sound design in the game is pretty good, and it manages to give hits "weight", like Darkest Dungeon.

Yeah, but it's specific enough for me to admit that maybe it's a reference

Not that it matters much.

Microprose game from 1992. Some similarities to BB: Free open world, set up in Germany middle ages, combat is very dangerous, there is no (player) magic, only praying to Saints and Alchemy (which I wouldn't mind seeing in BB)...

Good game.

I like Rotation in my Two Handers as soon as I get a longaxe. I find myself 3 hexes away from my target a lot of times, and swapping position with a brother is usually enough to hit something.

You can lose reputation with the faction/town and even lose the contract if you press to much. Rule of thumb for me is to ask for more once and accept it afterwards.

Related: You can "accept" the terms of the contract and then say that you have to think about it. It's mostly useful to check distances to other cities for courier/escort missions.

Also, Geists will dash ahead of the other undead, so retreating for a couple of turns before engaging usually means that you can get into melee range and focus fire them without zombies in the way. There is the problem of necromancers being farther away, but at that point you can usually send your hunter-seeker bro around the horde to get to the necro.

They should just keep stealing ideas from Mount and Blade, including the ability to own towns and castles that give you passive income and maybe eventually the ability to form your own kingdom.

Picking up and leaving brothers as garrisons would be great, but probably too big a change in scope.

Using a crossbow on your flagbearer is a good idea, though. With quickhands you can shoot, swap, stab. Same with two handed people (instead of thrown, and only if you can spare the fatigue), because you may hit something with the aim bonus.

Other guys, yeah, bows.

Ok cool, so assuming ~250 gold for a stack of 20 tools that means each tool costs about 12.5 gold, so repairing an item from 0-100 costs about 83 gold.

15 durability points per tool, IIRC, not 15% durability. Armor is generally not eorth fixing.

What was the goonsensus on Nimble again? I'm starting a new campaign after a while and besides "they changed it a couple of times" I'm not sure whether it's good or not. Good for bros in the second line, but front liners still go heavy tank?

How do you feel about throwing weapons after the DLC? All the builds I see from people are either archer or sluggers, with the occasional attempt to make a duelling sword useful. With the new weapons, and specially fielding more but worse brothers in a Peasant Militia, I feel that trowing stuff is a better choice than it was at launch.

Finally got my Lone Wolf run working, and managed to get my toon to level 11 by basically soloing the game and making use of training facilities. My loyal squire (I don't know if it's scripted, but have gotten an event that gave me a Brother every time I've gone pass day 10) is the only other Bro so far.

Is now the time to start going through the cheap background grind, or is it better to go up in numbers slowly and aim for the better backgrounds?

I'm having another go at this after not having touched the game since before the DLCs. The peasant start seems powerful, a lot of chaff to cover the decent bros and eventually 16 people in the field. How debilitating is the "all lowborn" trait? I guess no adventurous nobles and no knights? It doesn't seem too much of a problem.

How do you decide where to buy and sell? I usually carry a normal shield around and sell whenever it's priced at 16 or above, and have some reference buying prices (i.e. tools below 250), but I'm wondering whether I should be doing things differently.

Playing Lone Wolf on day 15, been lucky with my company so far. Both the LW and a militiaman are end game material and I have a couple more decent shield carriers and an archer for the mid game. Most of my bros are at 110 armour because raiders keep forgetting their hats.

What's the next step? I have an ambition to reach 12 brothers (I'm at 10), so that's the next step, and I'm going to start hitting the arena for resolve and money.
