When the federal health exchange launched, Nancy Ware, 58, researched plans for her son, who works in the service industry and is now 35. At first, she said, he covered the cost of a $250-per-month plan. When it jumped to about $500, she covered half of the cost. Last year, when it grew to $700 per month, he decided to go without coverage and pay the fine, according to Ware. Now, she said, the price tag is $900 per month, which would have been half of his wages.

Ware is a landscaper and often works near Section 8 housing in the Nashville area, and she becomes furious when she sees residents who “drive better cars than I do, they have weaves and hair color better than I can, they have manicures.” As Ware, who is white, waited in line for the rally to start, a group of young African American protesters walked by, and she yelled at them, “Go cash your welfare checks!”

“He gets penalized on his income taxes, while these people that don’t know how to pull their pants up can go get it for free,
” said Ware, whose employer covers the full cost of her health care. “Make it even. Make it balanced.”

Maybe you should read the article instead of just linking it because it's basically a list of times when people with actual quantitative abilities (in this article "physicists") came into econ blind and outshone the residents despite supposedly having to struggle with new material. And a guy with a physics BA has maybe half the range of quantitative skills of someone with a math BA, maybe a fourth the ability to get a computer to do work for him as a comp sci BA.

Go look at the list of Nobel Laureates in Econ from the last 20 years or so and tell me what they got their undergrad degrees in. Here's a hint: not loving econ.

That's not the point. You were saying that the mathematics in physics is far more complicated than the math used economics and economics is just a pretend science that doesn't use math or statistics (lol). Describing human behavior mathematically, or complex global interconnected economies can be just as complicated as describing the physical universe we live in. If someone with physics or high-level mathematics training becomes an economist, they are an economist. If they are using the extent of their quantitative abilities applied to economics, then the math is equally complex to physics.

I agree the math you need for an undergrad econ degree is small (only really use multivariate calculus and linear algebra), but it's just a few more classes for undergrad physics. And some undergrad with an econ degree is not an "economist". Pretty much every economist has a PhD. The people who are actually on the forefront of economic theory or something related like quantitative finance are every bit as mathematically inclined as your average physicist. The only difference is that they have higher paying jobs. :P

Oh and btw, several recent econ nobel laureates got their undergrad degree in econ. Not that it loving matters what you did in undergrad lol.

The survey, conducted by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC), which partnered with YouGov, found that 45 percent of the youth said they would vote for a socialist and 21 percent said they would vote for a communist. Additionally, 53 percent of millennials said that America's capitalist system "works against me."

Millennials also tended to agree more with statements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) than economist Milton Friedman, 71 percent to 58 percent, respectively. Only 55 percent felt that communism is a problem, compared to 80 percent of baby boomers.

quote:

Operation Condor (Spanish: Operación Cóndor, also known as Plan Cóndor, Portuguese: Operação Condor) was a campaign of political repression and state terror involving intelligence operations and assassination of opponents, which started in 1968 and was officially implemented in 1975 by the right-wing dictatorships of the Southern Cone of South America. The program was nominally intended to eradicate communist or Soviet influence and ideas, and to suppress active or potential opposition movements against the participating governments' neoliberal economic policies, which sought to reverse the economic reforms of the previous era.[5]

Due to its clandestine nature, the precise number of deaths directly attributable to Operation Condor is highly disputed. Some estimates are that at least 60,000 deaths can be attributed to Condor,[8][9] and possibly more.[10] Victims included dissidents and leftists, union and peasant leaders, priests and nuns, students and teachers, intellectuals and suspected guerillas.[10]

Condor's key members were the governments in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil. The United States government provided technical support and supplied military aid to the participants during the Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan administrations.[2] Such support was frequently routed through the Central Intelligence Agency. Ecuador and Peru later joined the operation in more peripheral roles.[11] These efforts, such as Operation Charly, supported the local juntas in their anti-communist repression.[12]
