What's so magical about that airbus that it costs that much to run?

Call me Tapco, I want to fly a fighter!

Tapco votes for Tibet via India in hopes of getting to fly a MiG-21 Bison some day.

After that, I'd start mercilessly lobbying to put an AESA radar on it.

Yeah, going in low in the riverbed would be good in avoiding radar, but that's almost ideal ground for MANPADS, unless they're clustered around the bridge.

Can one Grippen laze the target for another? Can they self laze? For maximum fuckery, there's mountain to the south-southwest of the bridge... crest the top 1,3 miles away from the target, fire rockets/drop bombs, tear rear end out of there, hiding back behind the mountain from the MANPADS (assuming they don't inhabit the area around there).

Now this map might be too technical for some of you, but I produced it on the best napkin I could find. The red-blue are our paying mission routes. The black is a 600+ kilo run for the bombs. Follow the escort flight about half way, divert towards 1, go low, follow the river to 2, then go through the valley towards X, where you crest the mountain and have to options - either going by the river and then attacking the bridge (though it wouldn't give you a lot of time to acquire the target, and that river valley might be full angry alternative employers) or going over the mountain I mentioned in the begining of the missive.

Sure, flying low might not be that easy and you'll upset a lot of civilians, but you do what you must to blow up bridges while supporting humanitarian efforts.

Look, we're not some Nigerian mercs providing bodies with AKs to guard Applebees in Baghdad, we're more like Xe airborne (only with less shooting at civvies). We need to show people that we're serious and we need our pilots to hone skills other than "loving Indian prostitutes bowlegged." That's why 6 Grippens is the way to go.

The video was fine, though a bit long because of the you didn't time compress "nothing happening now, but something MIGHT happen" sections, for example, the Savage flight approach to the bridge.

Other than that, GG, DSM is the goon of the day, nothing but the best of fermented yak milk for our ace pilot!

EDIT: Phantom IIs are beautiful, they actually have chaff that Mig-21bis don't (at least the Baloogan Wiki says they don't), and they can be flown in bomb truck configuration for 12 or more bombs, which is great and something I wanted to do ever since I saw it on Wargame.

I vote Frogfoots and Phantoms. A2A poo poo is boring and will become even more boring once we become rich enough to fire Meteors (never?) and other BVR missiles that let AWACS operators feel like they're playing Red Alert. By the way, what could be considered to be off-brand Meteors and what planes could fly them? Would Su-27 be any more economical, loadout-wise?

Edit: it's Tapco, not Capco :argh:

*Good at recruitment/conscription effort
**120 Mosins that can be given out to new employees
***Do you get hard thinking about SF training Montangnards in Vietnam? That's basically what the Russians can do for us, but with more drinking
*Already trained for harsh conditions (Siberia is 100% misery all year, the difference being that it's cold in winter and oxygen is replaced by mosquitoes in summer)
*Mechanized infantry
*Come in a combined arms package
*Lets us toys with ideas like strapping an ATGM to a T-34
*Any tank is better than no tank
*Already familiar with the equipment that the enemy uses, so can resupply in the field
*Might be both Communists and Russian Orthodox, thus giving us a moral compass
*Plausible deniability: would gay designer Swede mercs be using uncouth homophobic Russians? I think not!
*Probably handy with wood working

Yeah, I was wondering if the game makes getting shot down a literal death sentence (what is this, Rise of Flight LP?). Maybe we should diceroll them whike we wait for CMANO to implement that (and ground combat).

Ground combat would be sweet, it somewhat dilutes the feeling of urgency when those Chinese Type-59 IIs (on book called them the worst thing ever inflicted on an army) are willing to sit in one spot for 6 hours until we fly back to bomb them. Anyone want to simulate that battle in winSPMBT?

I'll vote NO on the Pact stuff, they seem real shoddy.

I volunteer to fly any death trap I voted for, so I'm gonna be in one of those suicide phantoms.

8 Phantoms at 100% availability could poo poo out 12 GBUs of whatever size per plane and it would be awesome.

Hell, we could give napalm to some of them, the airframes would probably fly faster with the knowledge that they're going to fry Charlie again.

If there was funding left after the Gripens and Phantoms, I would advocate us acquiring the Ivanov's Fenders as SEAD aircraft.
