The Devil's Backbone is pretty earnest. And I'd say it's pretty sentimental as well.
Or maybe I just love that movie.

The director said they aren't showing pennywise much until the last 3rd of the movie and they are emphasizing the shapeshifting (and he'll have more than one voice).

I always saw book Pennywise as something terrible just passably appearing to be a clown. Like, not actually pulling it off well enough to fool anyone. Georgie is super young so he wouldn't know and I think it says that explicitly, right?
