What civil disobedience regarding Adani? I thought all of the stuff protesting that mine was pretty much by the book stuff, and that lawsuit from the endangered lizard etc.

I think Adani is more about the near death status of coal. It's one thing to continue to use existing infrastructure (mines, trains, power plants.) It's another thing entirely to sink a billion dollars into a white elephant like that.

lol, just lol if you think the loving banking sector, of all industries, was moved by minor protests as opposed to a cost benefit analysis that reported a less than 500% return

There's probably a financial and social reason (proportionally which it is I couldn't say) since the banks are becoming more mindful of appearing less evil. Do you really want to bankroll a mine that's going to get your branches picketed for a year?

Well given that it seems like merely the current operational fossil fuel production will use the entirety of our carbon budget for 2 degrees C it may be wise for banks not to make massive multi year investments in thing that will inevitably have to not produce the full amount they are capable of. https://newrepublic.com/article/136987/recalculating-climate-math Of course there is only ever one singular reason for a thing happening so we'd better have a big argument about which reason was the one exact one that made banks do this.
