If they had the foresight to buy extra water in the lead up to the event, and had to pay extra for it themselves then the price rise could be justified. That's how the system is supposed to work. People just love to screw those in need though I guess.

they need a brand change. a lot of people are really suspicious of 'greenies' (i.e. vegan SJWs who want to ban fishing, hunting and 4wd-ing) and they assume the Greens are basically a party devoted to all of those things. I reckon they'd be a lot more successful if they styled themselves as a socialist democrat party with an interest in the environment rather than an environmentalist party with an interest in socialist democracy.

They're doing this FYI, the qld election is probably going to be a lot less about "the reef", although with the Adani mine being such a hot topic it might be hard to tell

Simpson joined the merchant navy in England, then after one trip he (and 14 others on the crew, must have been a rough trip) jumped ship - making him a defector. He travelled around Australia for a few years, doing all sorts of jobs and sending pay back to his mum the whole time. When Australia got involved in WW1 he volunteered pretty quickly, thinking he was going to get a free boat trip back to England. Unfortunately for him he ended up in Egypt to train for Gallipoli. When he got to Gallipoli he "found" some donkey and started using it to bring in wounded. People say he must have used it to get the easier, closer fellas because a heavily wounded bloke way up the front couldn't get on to a donkey. He went through about half a dozen donkeys in 3 weeks then was shot and killed. There were other people doing basically the same thing as him at the time, and the real heroes doing stretcher carrying like they were supposed to.

There was an investigation a while ago into whether Simpson and others should get VC medals but all the evidence showed he was basically just doing about the average of what a stretcher bearer should be doing. Figures like 300 men saved, he would have to have done 12 a day, are impossible due to how long it took to bring the wounded back from the lines to the medical areas.

One of the paintings by Horace Moore depicting a man and a donkey, formerly thought to be a portrait of Simpson, now known to portray Henderson.

quote:

"Portfolios will be held responsible for the debts they are incurring for future generations as a result of their expenditure," Mr Morrison will say.

This will be purely so they can point at the welfare budget and say we need to slash it hard.
