Quite apart from the nice rhyming name, she may no longer be eligible : You must have two members on the ballot to be a party, and the Ballot paper for South Australia 2016 was :

Since Bob Day was ineligible to be on the ballot, then Family First shouldn't have been on the ballot as a party, and therefore there is no other party member to transfer the votes to...

What will happen first : This court case be resolved, or there's another federal election ?

gently caress Family First, but I hope the courts don't invalidate the whole party listing. Bob Day was clearly in violation of the rules but wiping out a whole bunch of peoples votes for FF would be dodgy as imo.

Imagine thinking that large scale coal mining will be a productive economic exercise 50 years from now.

If this mine was such a great idea shouldn't the free market be willing to fund it rather than having to get the biggest govt loan ever just to get off the ground?

And if the government is convinced in the business case enough to say it's worth investing billions of dollars to support it, why aren't we just running it ourselves instead of letting an overseas company take the profits?

Doesn't Iran have state subsidised gender reassignment surgeries? I mean they're a backwards authoritarian theocracy, but it's not as if they'd be shocked and no one has ever come out as queer in Iran.

It's an interesting (if heartbreaking) instance of one step forward two steps back.

Homosexualiy is 100% illegal, however trans individuals are recognized as having a legitimate medical issue. So gay people in Iran hae a choice between hiding who they are entirely, or legally switching genders to be with who they love.

Family first got votes for a seat, with that being the case it's better for it to come with more diversity than be held by another old white man.

This new visa stuff is basically (a few short term for locals) jobs and (hurt long term) growth.

Yeah, god forbid productive and useful people become committed to Australia.

Wouldn't make it a long weekend, that will just result in less people voting. Also seems hard to organize without fixed elections.

Can't even do basic math Mr Speaker.

Hey, the circumstances of the early-mid 90's were very different to today apparently!
