So I know he Flyers looked awful most of this year, but I just looked at the end of the year stats and holy poo poo did everyone that was not Wayne Simmons's and Brayden Schenn underperform.

Simmonds: 30 goals, 52 points
Schenn: 25 goals, 54 points
Voracek: 20 goals, 61 points
Girioux: 14 goals, 57 points
Couterier: 13 goals, 31 points (64 games played)
Konencny: 11 goals, 28 points
Read: 10 goals, 19 points (63 games played)
Raffle: 8 goals, 11 points (52 games played)
Jordan Weal: 8 goals, 11 points (in 21 games)
Ghost: 7 goals, 38 points
Provorav: 7 goals, 28 points
Vandevelde, Gudas, Cousins, and Weiss all have 6 goals
And worth mentioning:
Andrew MacDonald: 2 goals, 14 assists, 16 points (and rarely scratched)

loving awful year. Only bright spot was Provarov and Simmonds (not a fan of Schenn). Girioux needs to bounce back next year.

Also, Weal outscored half the loving team playing in only 21 games.

Well, looks like it won't be an issue next year. Mason isn't coming back if he's saying things like that, not that it was likely anyway once Neuvirth's contract was renewed.

I thought this might happen. Hopefully, we learn the correct lessons from it and nobody with authority panics. I don't think we should re-sign Elliott, though. He slipped into the same bad habits that plagued him at the beginning of the season.

That said, not sure what to do about our goaltending situation. The UFA crop is mostly butts, maybe Steve Mason or Scott Darling? I'm sure both would love to be the unquestioned #1 starter, especially after what that article said the other day about what Neuvirth and Mason thought about platooning. I'd like Chad back though, he helped Calgary back to the playoffs by playing well when Elliott struggled during the season. And it gives Gillies more time to adjust to being a pro goaltender.

Mason would be worth a team rolling the dice on, I think he can still play well, he just kind of had a lovely situation this season in Philly (goaltender with a bad experience in Philly, what a surprise).

BSH did a super deep dive into the year that wasn't for Ghost Bear

TL/DR: Murphy's Law year. Terrible puck luck and the benchings were understandable but may have done more harm than good. He's very offensively minded, to the point where he can still be something of a liability with play coming back against him. Being paired up with AMac did him absolutely no favors.

I think either way, we will just have to see how Ghost bounces back. Personally, I think the skill is there for a 2nd D, offensive specialist, whatever you want to call it, and still the potential for top D. When someone has a bad season like that that, a summer off can really help refocus as well. So either way, most players are bound to have a bad season at some point (as you pointed out, not all his fault), so I will be very happy if he got his bad season out of the way, learned from it, and the Flyers got the 2nd pick of the draft.

The Blues losing is such bullshit, first of all we all know that Nashville is the cheapest and dirtiest team in hockey and it was clear that the refs were in on the take, all you have to do is look at how many penalties they gave the Blues arrogantly because they knew Nashville couldn't score except on a Power Play but that was pretty stupid, just compare the cities: St Louis is more than twice the size of Nashville and has lots more hockey fans so how is that a good marketing plan, NHL, and St Louis is also way richer than Nashville so good luck on not having that money watching your playoffs for the rest of the year.

I'm a fan of both Blues and Preds, but objectively just lol if you think the Blues are a better team. You could argue equal, but def not better. Factor in that one team gets hit, one team cold, and that makes the difference. But watching most of the series, the Blues didn't play well enough where "they were robbed" or "deserved to win."

They're gonna lose a good player somehow unless they do something. Hockey twitter keeps agitating on selling high on Josi as his league rep seems to outweigh his actual ranking (PK subban is not a top pairing blablablabla) and thus allow them to go 7-3-1 but I can't believe Poile would have the gumption to do that. Although he did trade Seth Jones and Weber so who knows.

I can't believe people are still underrsting Josi. He's a different style, but he and subban are definitely equal defenseman.

Protect the 4 D, protect Johansson, Forseberg, and Ardvidson, and just pick whatever other forward.

They'll probably lose Neal, but at this point I'm ok with that, he's replaceable, especially with the stupid penalties he took in the finals.

Not really sure why he would retire then go to Europe but maybe he just figures he could extend his career there plus he probably isn't going to crack the roster next year. Would think someone would trade for him though

I don't think I would say he's more than a bottom pairing defenseman, but I liked him when he was in Nashville. Haven't followed him recently though.

Moving Neal's 5m cap hit would give them enough capspace (22m+) to resign Johansen, Arvidsson, and Fisher then go after Duchene. Fisher is their #2 center and turning 37, but their top 4 D are 26-28 and top 3 F are 22-24. That's a team that can mortgage the future and offer a lot of picks/prospects for a guy like Duchene right now.

This I can agree with (worth it to go for a big signing). And with Nashville doing well maybe more players will be open to playing there.

I think the crazy Penguins vs Flyers series from 2012 will always be remembered fondly here, and Fleury didn't do well in that series. He's had that rep here ever since.

I don't think it has to be one or the other, Fleury is just a goalie capable of playing both great and terrible, so he's streaky. Honestly, pretty similar to Rinne.

Wouldn't quite surprise me. Raffle is the best known player left exposed by the Flyers, but Weal had a good end of year. It's still just surprising they protected Laughton over Weal.

Preds chat: Neal was one of the only forwards who can score, so while I won't completely miss him, I really hope the Preds make a signing of someone in the off season to replace him (and losing his cap hit hopefully can help with that).

Untouchables line reunited as a top 2 line for Vegas. Irony being just they get less minutes than they got under Hakstol.
