Farewell, marble-dwellers!
The Attack on Titan video game from Koei continues a bit further from where the first season of the anime left off. I had assumed it was all original stuff for the game past that point.

I was really surprised to see Eoten Erectus show up in season two and I was worried that I had "seen" all of season two already. Fortunately, the anime has already diverged from the game by having the characters split up.

Anyway, that was a strong first episode and I'm excited to see where the story goes.

Maybe, but we'll probably have to wait till he gets to his basement to find out.

I only just realized that Keith, the Training Instructor, is the same guy that was leading the Scout regiment in the first episode of the first season.

Wow, this just keeps getting stranger and stranger.

Also what an ED... that music is just a level up from the Flowers of Evil ED, and there's a lot of strange details in the visuals.

I might be making this up, but I wanna say that Isayama said somewhere that he was actually originally planning to kill off Sasha during this chapter in the manga, but decided against it because he liked the character too much

More like his editor liked Sasha so much that when he got the draft page where she died he started crying.

The questions keep piling up. I didn't know Titans couldn't move at night. Did I miss a reference to that fact in season one?

Not that I remember but the church guy a couple of episodes ago was desperate to keep the wall titan covered up so it was obvious that they have some reaction to the sun.

Yeah they mentioned in season 1 that titans become inert at night, though I don't think it ever became important. Since they don't need to eat presumably they're solar-powered, environmentally friendly murder machines. :science:

When Hange was describing the experiments she did with Sawney and Bean, one of the experiments was covering them with a sheet. It resulted in them becoming less active and sluggish. Episode 15, I think?

Finally caught up with the manga, and now that I see it has an actual direction instead of just endlessly spinning its wheels while characters fight titans who used to be friends and get horrified by stuff, I'm excited for the series again. Yay!

Also Eren is a lot less shouty and obnoxious in recent chapters, and when he does act pissy, the other characters are like "Yeah, ignore him, he's 15."

Hopefully the anime goes in that direction.

At the end of season 1 (in a scene that actually wasn't even in the manga afaik) Erwin had a big speech about how the only thing that they gained from capturing Annie is the knowledge that there are other people like her somewhere in the walls.

I'm also wondering if Connie is going crazy or if his mom was a human-titan? Why didn't they kill that titan that was lying in the house? HOW DID IT GET THERE? WHO IS THE BEAST TITAN? Ahhhhhhhh

Well, with the implication being that he's able to make other people into Titans, and the fact that he looks like a neanderthal, maybe he's the very first titan? The progenitor of the...species, disease, whatever it ultimately turns out to be.

Well they didn't kill the titan because it was completely immobile and live titans for use in experiments is a rare thing to have

So I think it's a pretty obvious theory that magilla gorilla climbed the wall, converted Conni's town (maybe others?) into titans and then used his small titan army to clear the way and capture some maneuver gear. Now he's climbed it back out, and left the titans to do whatever. Anyone disagree with that?

I don't think those titans are active at night, but that they were providing an escort for magilla and were just attacking any humans within distance of him. It was probably a one-time exception kind of thing.

The big question is why does magilla gorilla want a sample of the maneuver gear. He could have very easily just destroyed all the walls. It seems to be that he's working towards a different purpose than the human titans from Season 1. They want to end humanity, where as I get the feeling that the civilization within the walls is more of an ant farm for magilla. He wants to know what those humans are up to and gently caress with them on occasion but doesn't want to wipe humanity out. I think the fact that he climbed over the walls is the biggest argument for this. I would not be completely shocked if he repaired the other walls too.

So then I wonder, why do the human titans want to destroy the walls? Obviously the forces existed long before them to destroy the walls but it never happened. My guess is that the human titans work for a faction that realize they're on an ant farm and want to face their captors. Since they haven't shown themselves in the entirety of the walls existence, they have to be drawn out. So by loving up the walls and bringing humanity closer to extinction, it forces the captors hand to investigate/repair the damage to save it, and maybe we'll see the armored and giant titan fight magilla!

Given that we never seen the hole in Maria, that seems pretty likely.

The gear is the key to killing titans, so he wants to know how it works and influences the humans' tactics.

For me the bigger questions are:

Why are there intelligent titans?
Why are only some intelligent (assuming there are more than just gorilla titan), and is it related to the relative "human-ness" of the titan? (Note that neither Annie or Eren could speak as titans.)
By what mechanism are humans being turned into the low-tier titans?
Who else is the gorilla titan working with?
