I think it's a combination of it jumping the shark and the long hiatus. People who were casually in to it forgot about it, people who were really in to it read the manga and realised how dumb it was. If you're going to directly compare it to JoJo, the majority of the JoJo thread are people who have read the manga and primarily are watching the anime because they enjoy the characters so are happy to see the anime's take on them. AoT is more about uncovering the mystery than the characters, so once you know what happens there's not much reason to go back and see it again.
