I've had a real weird experience this season because I read the manga for a bit after the first season but I don't remember how much and I've forgotten most of it anyways since it was years ago. So I keep having these strong moments of deja-vu when something I read and then forgot shows up again in the show, including that shot.

Didn't the eyecatch say that Ymir's hometown is an unknown location outside of the walls? I assumed they mentioned that because those scenes were taking place in said hometown that is somewhere we haven't seen or known about before.
