i liked gnome 2 but without actually knowing anything about it i feel like MATE might be reliant on what is basically dead tech now? and cinnamon looks pretty decent but yeah xfce is the only one of those 3 i've actually used and it was good

really though the important question is which environments can do that pointless wobble effect that gnome 2 had

So if I remember right Canonical's director of engineering (Rick Spencer) used to work at Microsoft. And I'd guess he's also most likely to replace the CEO.

yea, if you want 1998 Linux you install lxde and set everything to flat color, no shading, fixed width ui fonts

my Linux boot looks like the radio telescope monitors in Contact and it's great

it was a pain in the rear end cause you had to bolt it on somewhere between x11 and gnome or kwin
