Yeah. I actually liked the substance of Meteora's experience, I just wish they could have found any other way to deliver it to the viewer than a monologue.

I thought the substance was awful. Maybe if this were episode 14 instead of 4 and she had any evidence to back up her insane logical leaps it could have been fine. No one questioned her, and she expressed no doubt, because the writers didn't know how to introduce their setting and so had the "smart" character guess everything figure it all out and explain it to everyone else, including the audience.

The next episode is 20 minutes of Meteora repeating her deductions to Military Uniform Princess while eating fried chicken, only for that to happen.

Part of the monologue was Meteora explaining what would destablise the world faster and MUP immediately putting that into practise, so they're clearly reading from the same script.

It'd be a good and fun twist to quicker exposition.

Spending half an episode on explaining a theory that isn't even true would be... a questionable decision. Especially when that time could be spent on her playing videogames.

(Seriously, we get great potential internal conflicts for her and Silensia, and they get dealt with in one episode each, in the least interesting manner available. Someone trying to comprehend the nature of her dead god is the good poo poo, but we don't even get a whole episode's worth of examination before reaching the end of the arc.)

You know, that reminds me of another missed opportunity.

She's the main NPC in a game that looks to be a first person dungeon crawler. Meaning the hero has no defined and concrete identity separate from the player, which means that Captain Boring is simultaneously (due to having played it) The Hero, her first and only friend at the end of all things, and, well, a loser teenager who has no combat capabilities whatsoever. There's some interesting places you can go with that, and it gives you some room to flesh the guy out through natural character interaction.

But no. She just plays the game herself. Offscreen.

This show continues to be so... Slow. It has such an interesting premise but it's still failing to do much with it. I really do hope it shapes up but I'm losing faith. When I start to lose interest halfway through an episode things are pretty rough going.

This is what I assumed too. Because she's written as "the one who knows all the plot and background information, except for whether the hero can really succeed," she therefore knows the "plot" of reality and how things work because that's one of her abilities/traits.

I assume that either Rui or Selesia is going to go rogue at some point? They're the only two members of the cast with giant robots, and we all know what that means.

They really could have condensed all of those points into 3 episodes if they removed the redundancies.

So an episode or two ago they mentioned how characters are summoned due to having a big impact on viewers, but wasn't Meteora like an item shop NPC or something in her game? I guess maybe she became part of some meme or something they made her unusually popular?

Yeah, though even then it's a little weird for her to have made a huge impact along the lines of all these other characters (who seem to be protagonists, rivals of the protagonists, etc).

As an unrelated note, I feel bad for Sota that he no longer gets to live with the two (literal) anime girls.

I can't help but wonder if Meteora will end up replacing MUPpet as the main villain eventually. There's not much hard evidence for it (and especially not much that can't be dismissed as simple bad writing), but it does make a weird kind of sense, cobsidering how she seemed to reach such an odd (and accurate) conclusion so quickly and easily about MUP's endgame, her being a side-character who somehow managed to reach the real world, the way she stole all those JSDF munitions (which I can't help but suspect will turn up in MUP's terrorist campaign), and generally how she's drawing so much trust and power around herself despite not being one of the protagonists.

I feel it could be a pretty cool twist, at least.

This show is kind of frustrating right now.

It avoids a lot of the obvious pitfalls, it has interesting ideas and it has moments that show it can be fun and clever...

But it it doesn't flow, and spends huge portions of episodes on exposition, just slopped on down without style or grace. It's moving at a respectable speed when you look strictly at what happened, but the delivery style makes everything feel so much slower than it should.

Not dropping it yet, but it'd be nice if it either got better or it went for the amusing kind of bad.

here's what I think about Meteora's long-winded exposition about what's going on that isn't rooted in much in the way of evidence at all:

she's full of poo poo

but she's convincing at being full of poo poo, and now at this point she has a substantial number of summoned heroes and the goddamn Japanese military going along with it. in some way she's not on the level and this is in service to what she's looking to have happen here. I don't think that's what gunsaber girl is trying to do whatsoever but Meteora has a reason for taking her down - of our non-antagonist cast she's the one who talked with that girl the most

and if this anime is good our hero will tell everyone what the gently caress is going on with that girl next goddamn episode

the tedious exposition character constantly spouting tedious exposition might be clever if it was subverted in some way, like how the magical girl was not able to explode people into doing what she wants. instead, meteora just endlessly blabbers on except for brief pauses where everyone present agrees with her.

my understanding is that she is the quest giver npc so her just blabbing on and on about the plot nobody cares about is pretty fitting.

Re Creators trivia:
-Rui’s Gigas Machina was originally made to be as tall as Celestia’s Vogelschevalier (17 m). The director suggested making the Gigas bigger (55 m) in order to emphasize the difference. (The Gigas is a little shorter than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, at 56.4m.)
-Hiroe says Rui is a mixture of several characters from mecha shows, including Ikari Shinji.
-When discussing Celesia’s character, who had some moments of comedy relief, Hiroe said he wasn’t expecting her to do so when he started writing the series. In a sense, he said the character became “three dimensional”.
-Hiroe purposely wrote the government and the female officer as competent because he felt it was frustrating to have people in power doing idiotic things.

Are you kidding me? We just spent two entire episodes with characters sitting around doing nothing but explaining things to each other, so in this episode...the characters sit around and talk about the exact same thing with the government. They could have really, really easily simply merged these last two episodes and have Meteora theorize to both the government and the other characters at once. :psyduck:

Also the government sure is friendly and accommodating to these weird super-people who claim to have fallen out of anime/video games and who have spent their short time in the world engaging in massive fights in public places.
