Pens lines at practice:

Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary
Rust-Malkin-Kessel
Wilson-Bonino-Hornqvist
Rowney-Cullen-Kuhnhackl

Dumoulin-Hainsey
Maatta-Daley
Cole-Schultz
Streit-Gaunce

Murray skated too.

I like those lines. D should be alright.

Yeah and Hagelin isn't even back yet. Losing Letang hurts but the Pens forwards are even better this year than last. Sheary is better than he was, and Guentzel is a huge bonus that they just did not have last year. Rust was on pace for 20 goals and would have easily gotten there but for injuries.

Matt Cullen on the 4th damned line had 30 points and is still pretty good also.

another game at nationwide arena. everybody keeps asking me if they can fuck the cannon. buddy, they don't even let me fuck it

https://twitter.com/BlueJacketsNHL/status/851830962094821377

This is a lineup which played really good hockey most of the season, with the addition of Bjorkstrand, who played good hockey until he was killed by Roman Polak and still could. The question is will they get it back in the next two weeks. CBJ have also recalled Oscar Dansk as their third goalie because Forsberg and Thiessen are trying to get the Monsters into the Calder Playoffs.

Also, here comes Werenski. :getin:

e- Each of those forward lines and both D on the top pair have/are at least two 10+ goal scorers, including all of the top six. Bjorkstrand was on a 10+ goal pace in 26 games (he was at 7 before getting hurt). Both wingers on the fourth line have 10. :stare:

In general I'm pretty happy to take the Rangers lineup against the Habs even with some stupid coaching decisions except if Price is going to pull a Carey Price then the difference isn't enough for the Rangers to overcome that unless they either get super hype and go nuts all over Montreal or Lundqvist turns back the clock about 7-10 years

e: like I'm not advocating for the Rangers to literally injure Price but they really do need to be running him at every chance. Not the "oops I just plowed into your head at full speed I didn't mean to" but constantly in his face and bumping him, whacking at his pads, if he goes to play the puck give him a bump, etc. Standard NHL stuff to give a goalie a hard time. I expect other teams to do it to Lundqvist and I'd want the Rangers to start doing it to Price or any other goalie they might face in the playoffs.

He's arguably Boston's best prospect on defense, even more so than Carlo who has already been a pro all year. He's a very mobile, offensively skilled defenseman, but not an offensive specialist.

He also plays a physical game. Here you can watch him destroy Lawson Crouse (who is 6'4 220lbs) with a clean, open ice hit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_3YNBHKMhA

I don't know that he'll actually be effective and I don't necessarily expect him to be. I'm just excited to see him debut.

and that's why I'm praying for Julien to dress McCarron. A good solid face punching might change that strategy (p.s gently caress chris kreider). Not that violence is the answer, but gently caress it man, I want to watch hockey games, not "lets knock out the goalie so we can win" strat.

I know you're not advocating for injury, but generally that type of play leads to a higher possibility of it happening, no?

I mean probably? But since every team does it except the Rangers apparently I want them to start doing it. We watch Lundqvist get poo poo every game for the most part, I want to see the Rangers dish some back. You think Gallagher isn't going to spend most of the game "accidentally" falling over Lundqvist in the crease?

Well there are 30 teams, so if each team won the cup once, the first of 30 to do so would be on a 29 year "drought" by the time the last team won one. Mathematically, there needs to be droughts.

A CBJ/wild final would be a first for both teams. The 3 teams that have never made the finals have only been around for 14 and 16 years, so in a 30 team league aren't statistically one of the "losers" yet.

Since the '67 cup win, the Leafs have never been back to the finals.

Agreed. It's not impressive to win a bunch in a 6 team league. Up to the WHA merger in 1979 it was still pretty easy. Even then only 5 of 21 teams missed the playoffs.

It also took teams other than the Habs a decade figure out how valuable high draft picks were. The Habs were the best team throughout the 70s but just bought high draft picks off of bottom feeders for table scraps so they could keep taking stars like Guy Lafleur.

Between 1969 and 1978 the Habs won the cup 7 times but picked in the first round 25 times selecting first overall 3 times with an average first selection of 6th. For comparison's sake, the Leafs picked in the first round 11 times in that span never picking someone higher than 4th. The Red Wings who made the playoffs twice in that stretch, had 10.

The Habs dealt some asset to the Kings for a song to keep them ahead of the Golden Seals in the standings, because they had the Seals' first round pick in 71. That pick became first overall, Guy Lafleur.

That's some Little Finger tier planning.
