In my opinion, the Washington Capitals are going to win the Stanley Cup. If they beat Pittsburgh in the second round on their way there, then it is 100% guaranteed.

So am I finding the right McAvoy here? (As in, a 19 year-old who has never played an NHL game)
And if so... why is he playing with Chara?

He's arguably Boston's best prospect on defense, even more so than Carlo who has already been a pro all year. He's a very mobile, offensively skilled defenseman, but not an offensive specialist.

He also plays a physical game. Here you can watch him destroy Lawson Crouse (who is 6'4 220lbs) with a clean, open ice hit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_3YNBHKMhA

I don't know that he'll actually be effective and I don't necessarily expect him to be. I'm just excited to see him debut.

Agreed. It's not impressive to win a bunch in a 6 team league. Up to the WHA merger in 1979 it was still pretty easy. Even then only 5 of 21 teams missed the playoffs.

Not to mention there wasn't even a draft until 1963, and teams more-or-less held exclusive rights to sign players from junior teams they sponsored until 1968.

The Leafs are a nice story of rookies playing well, but at the end of the day they're a 42 loss team going up against a team that has won the President's Trophy twice in a row.

Nah, the DC metro area has such a transient population that everyone is used to dealing with fans for basically every sports team ever, so you don't usually have fights that get any more serious than mild teasing. It's actually pretty nice in that way.

I think it's funny to see Caps fans assume they're already done because they lost two extremely close games. It's also funny that there are Leafs fans who now think they'll win the Cup this year because they won two extremely close games. It's maybe the best series right now though. Ottawa-Boston is not very exciting because the Bruins are a lovely team with lots of injuries and Ottawa is a lovely team that plays boring hockey. Haven't watched any of Montreal-New York. Four of the other series' are going to be sweeps. Edmonton-San Jose is pretty good I guess. I hope Connor and the boys win it.

But when they get bounced, I'm all aboard the Toronto bandwagon for two reasons.

the correct thing to do after your team loses is stop watching hockey until the cup finals.

The only redeeming option left is Subban scoring the cup winning goal in OT in Montreal but that involves rooting for Montreal to win three separate series and I don't want to look back at this time in my life on my deathbed and die in the throes of shame and disgust

If the Bruins lose the best options, in my opinion, would be:
1. Washington wins
2. Nashville wins
3. McDavid beats Crosby
4. Edmonton wins some other way

Matthews vs McDavid would be cool too but I don't want the Leafs to do well because their fans are really irritating and the team is going to be really good for the next few years anyway so it's not like this is their only chance.

the best parts of hockey are, in order:
1. sick dekes
2. snipe shows
3. monster hits
4. big saves
5. injuring the other team (different than #3 because you can appreciate #3 even if it happens to your team if its a clean hit)

My money's on "get eaten by them".
And this will probably be the end of the "Caps dominate regular season, lose in second round" narrative they have going; the Caps have a *lot* of UFA/RFA contracts expiring this year and next and quite a few of those players are going to get paid, which makes it harder to see them all staying under the jumbo sized pavilion the Caps have going right now.

They'll lose Shattenkirk, Williams, hopefully Alzner, and maybe Oshie. They might take a step back but the team isn't going to fall apart, and they dominated the regular season before they had most of those players anyway.

They'll have $22M in cap which is more than enough to give Kuznetsov a big raise. Burakovsky has been really good too and he's a guy they'll need to keep, but with his numbers they can probably buy low on him.
