He was good last night when Washington was pressing super hard, but every shot was a bit of an adventure. Didn't feel comfortable watching him. He's good but when he lets in bad goals it's not shocking.

I also suspect that Holtby will be on a short leash tonight, if only to light a fire in the rest of the team as opposed to him deserving of being pulled. Putting the guy who has a lifetime .937 sv% in the playoffs, and who is playing at that level right now, on a short leash is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. I don't think Trotz is that dumb. Washington's goaltending has nothing to do with the difficulty the Caps have had against Toronto, and "lighting a fire" isn't worth downgrading your goaltending.

Their defensive scheme tends to be collapsing and blocking shots a la the New York Rangers Torts teams. Then they counter with speed. Taking that away is taking away half of their game. Yeah I think we can safely say that's going to be 2. LA vs. NJ is probably 2 as well - fatman and Doughty. Elias & some of the LA forwards might end up sneaking in, but probably shouldn't.

Sharks Eat Bear posted:that bruins player basically fell into ryan, was a good call by tim peel I don't think the call was terrible in a game where you call the game like that. The reason Tim Peel is a terrible ref is because he's incredibly inconsistent. One minute he's calling it like it's the 90s and anything goes, the next minute it's like he got his instructions coming out of the 04 lockout. He wants to manage the game, but he does it by changing his mind on what's a penalty so both teams end up getting jobbed and it just comes down to which one takes advantage of the powerplays. e: eh watching again it was a bad call either way. Point about Peel still stands.

Thufir posted:Yuuup. Johansen too. It's interesting because coming out of an ELC his comparables are like 3.5M$, but on 6 year terms - thinking Gallagher in particular. Add some measure of salary inflation and the preds might be able to get him locked in for like 4-4.5 per. That's probably where he should be. On the other hand, he just had a whale of a season and it looks like he might have a pretty exceptional playoff run. I don't see massive signs of regression, especially if they can lock down a top line of Forsberg - Johanssen - Arvidsson for the next 5 years, but it's always a bit risky buying long term on a guy after a season like this. I don't think anyone saw this coming.

A thing I saw earlier today in an article about the Pens - since the line of Crosby / Guentzel / Sheary came together they've combined for 19 EV (non-EN) goals over 14 games, which is a pace of like 110 goals over a full season. Obviously nobody is going to keep up that pace, but still. drat.

Ginette Reno posted:I like the Sens players a lot. Karlsson is a joy to watch, and Hoffman owns. But god dammit do I hate Guy Boucher hockey. He can turn games into an absolute hideous slog. The one thing I'll say about Boucher is that he is a very good coach. His boring lovely hockey is absolutely what this team should be playing given their talent level (outside of EK and the top 3 forwards they don't have any real skill players). As long as the rules favour guys playing trap hockey I can't blame the guy who coaches the way that allows them to win. As an owner though I think Melnyk is making a huge mistake. Boucher style hockey is costing him money because their games are loving boring. They didn't even sell out a second round playoff game. That is insane in a Canadian market.
