Sportsnet coulda thrown money at Miller or Rick Ball and instead they hire Romanuk and Randorf and then have to go out and get Cole out of retirement because those two were so loving terrible.

I mean, Sportsnet certainly tried their hardest to throw money around. It's just that nobody wanted to work for them.

My main memory of that series is Edmonton killing an extended 5-on-3 while two of their players were without sticks.

A division winner losing the first two games at home while getting shut out in both is not without precedent. It has even happened this millennium!

This happened in Game 2(?) of TOR/WSH and you just knew they put Ovie in the box to set this exact thing up. Sure enough, away he went.

And Marner caught him, too.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm above it. I'd be seriously peeved if a below average Ottawa team had its once-every-three-years three week PDO bender line up with injuries and a lucky bracket, and lead to them winning a Cup. Hell, I'm on the verge of melting down just because they made the ECF.

It would take a tremendous choke job for the Caps to lose to Ottawa. All the West teams remaining are better also.

I could see the Pens losing to them though if Maf turns back into a pumpkin and they continue to be so banged up.

See, as I read this, all I'm seeing is more reasons to freak the gently caress out if they win.

I guess I'll console myself by saying that, should truth and justice prevail and the Sens be squashed in the ECF, they will at least go down as clear evidence that the bracket system was hosed since it allowed a team like Ottawa to make it that far.

The final four teams present two very different possible outcomes. On the one hand we have the great outcome, with Nashville playing Pittsburgh in a fun and gun Cup final where PK and Phil get to battle it out. On the other hand, we have a loathsome Ottawa team facing the Anaheim Randy-and-Nonis Ducks.

So much is at stake.

You look at Phil Kessel, and it just boggles the mind that this man who looks like the Ur Goon stumbling around skates, half-tripping until until he reaches speeds that just seem to defy the laws of physics relative to his body type -- chasing pucks, red-faced and trying to meekly forecheck, wheeling around like a kid on figure skates, lurking in the slot while desperately trying not to topple over forward while he fumble fucks around with the puck on his stick. It's fascinating watching how fast he somehow gets into his shooting motion, and unleashes that wrist shot.

I just can't get enough of him.

Some article on I think deadspin wrote that every Phil Kessel goal is a fat guy touchdown, and I think that nailed it pretty well.

Any Scottish goons know where I can catch the ice hockey game in Glasgow? Do they have hockey here?

Last I knew the games were shown on some weird bespoke but technically-national station, so I just hunt streams on reddit. Unless you're asking about the Braehead Clan, in which case they're at the Braehead mall.

e: Most places are going to be closed by 1AM, though if you're asking about the Sunday evening game I may have an idea.
