The Wriggle kick came about partly because of how some game mechanics worked in IN, namely you go to the top of the screen to collect all the stuff on screen, and Wriggle enters the stage pretty much unannounced after a big wave of enemies, so you go to the top to grab them and Wriggle slide casually into the screen to do contact damage before the midboss fight.
