amigolupus posted:I find it even weirder that dating Kawakami's even an option considering the first arc is all about a teacher abusing their position to sexually abuse his female students. It's like nobody even stopped to even think that it may have been sliiiiiiightly tone-deaf to the themes of the game. People pretty commonly (and erroneously) think that it's different for boys.

A little weird that the effect of killing his shadow in the Palace would be to give him some kind of aneurysm about 10 seconds after he starts the typical confession.

I'd been wondering about that for a while, especially given that he's not being interrogated with them on. And if Niijima is the target of that run, then nothing I could have thought of as an explanation makes much sense. Her Palace is a casino...?

Zagglezig posted:Up til now I was occasionally wondering why we were doing seemingly real world thief stuff at the beginning that caused us to get caught and arrested (and what might happen story-wise to let demons into the real world, since some of the guys chasing Maaku transdormed). The fact that they did actually have to be physically fit to move around helped with the thought of all his acrobatics. Now, though, I'm wondering if this whole time we've been talking to Sae's mental self. This is what I've been thinking but some details don't add up for that. For one thing, Maaku is out of his Thieves outfit for some reason now. For another, shouldn't Sae's shadow have yellow eyes?

RedMagus posted:It may seem pretty unimaginative in a story sense, but I do want to bring up that women are constantly dealing with overt and suggested sexual violence every day in the world, and in everyday life. Just a reminder to us all that what we're seeing is an ongoing issue and we should all be working towards making the world a safer place. That's fine but as a critique of the story of the game, this would be more relevant if this was a major coherent theme that it dealt with in a serious way rather than a collection of mostly unrelated plot devices punctuated by the male characters ogling Anne's tits. The way it's presenting this problem ironically makes it actually seem exceptional and strange rather than a normalized constant.

The most interesting part is how she sees it as a game of chance, where personal skill had no basis in "winning" (getting justice) and "the house" always wins. While it's her palace, is it clear that she thinks of herself as the beneficiary of this kind of broken justice system, or is she only starting to cynically accept it after years of being worn down by it all and seeing it all as a "game" she has to "win" but has no real reliable ability to influence? Of course, winning right now means essentially agreeing to frame someone, so it's pretty clear that she's gotten some real distorted desires to sort out.

The only complication here is that Sae seems frustrated by her job. I would not have guessed based on all the stress her job gives her that she feels confident in winning.

It feels like there was supposed to be a courtroom scene that would have, like, mattered to our understanding of the characters in some way, but it got cut.

I have it in my mind that he sees himself as an actor putting up a front, everyone else as his adoring fans, so his palace will either be a stage, movie set, or a theater. He keeps talking about "setting sail for a better future" or some poo poo so I bet it's a ship.

TheOneAndOnlyT posted:Shido's a weak villain but I actually think the reasoning for his Palace being a ship is pretty good. We'll hear more about it once we start exploring, but suffice it to say it's based on more than the fact that he used the word "steer". I mean, "the ship of state" is a common metaphor used to describe the project of national politics. So it's not totally off the wall thematically.

I could kinda buy trying to get him on their side as a purely pragmatic move. He's not totally wrong that offing him is one of their few options for dealing with him to prevent him from being a problem. What else could they do? They can't give him a change of heart, they're not going to convince anyone that he murdered people by invading their mind palaces. So if they don't want to actually kill a human being (something it's not totally outrageous to not want to do, even if the person in question is awful and killed people you cared about), co-opting him gets him out of the way. If you can stomach dealing with him. I'm not sure the game could have pulled that off convincingly either, but it makes more sense than a sincere "let's let bygones be bygones!" thing.

It's possible the water isn't "really" water so much as a symbolic representation of failure, in which case if you fall in, you're sinking by dream logic regardless of how well you swim. Of course, in that case running really hard shouldn't necessarily matter either...

But then Sojiro does that ridiculous smoothing-over nonsense and it's back to business as usual. None of this even makes sense though. His cover for Maaku is that he really was with him working and not seeing someone else, but every one of his girlfriends was in the room together, simultaneously accusing him of cheating. Were they all just ignoring each other politely, was the metaverse's last miracle to make them not see each other, just... what.

Bloody Emissary posted:Lazy programming due to the development time crunch, probably. It looks like they wrote a one-size-fits-all scene for two-timing each romance option, then just added them all together for multiple rejection cases. The easiest fix would be having each person enter the shop, say their piece, and exit, one after another; it would feel repetitive (like reading all the "hey, let's meet up" messages at once does), but would at least make more sense than a complete lack of reaction to the presence of the other people Joker is triple-plus-timing. They could probably have done something good with him getting his rear end beat worse and worse with each scorned lady that shows up until whoever shows up last finds him bruised and unconscious on the ground and is like "uhhh i'll just leave my chocolate here and go..."

Briefly put, according to this second claim the ending depicts a time before Erica transitioned but this was misunderstood as something... much worse. I don't know what's true though.
