 I don't recall any Souls game really nerfing pyromancies, except maybe DS3? There are only a few major differences between DS1 and DS2 pyromancies, and all effectively serve to "smooth" your character progression in DS2 rather than have it be rather modal as in DS1. The first is that you start out with fewer casts in the latter but can end up getting strictly more with sufficient Attunement. (There's also equipment for increasing casts.) The second is that you can't just boost your Pyromancy Flame with sufficient souls, but instead have to use Fire Seeds in return for requiring fewer souls overall. (But you eventually get access to about 20 across an entire playthrough, and you only need 10 to fully upgrade the Flame.) And the last is that Pyromancy Flames get scaling with your fire bonus, accounting for around half the potential spell bonus, so you can't just dump your casting stats like you could in DS1. (But you don't need much investment, relatively speaking, to hit the soft caps for fire in the first place.)

DS2 had a patch which rebalanced the pyromancies, especially the Flame Weapon enchant... Which was originally pretty overpowered for not having to put any stats into it if I'm honest.

Okay, so here is how this invasion happened from my end:

1. I use a Cracked Red Eye Orb. I get a bite, and invade Geop. :woop: LP invasion successful!
2. I hide in that tower with the round window, leaving some "bait."
3. I see Geop coming towards me. I cackle with glee as I prepare to ambush him in an amusing way.
4. Geop doesn't enter the doorway.

5. He leaves to head towards the boss area. I wait in case he comes back.
6. The Blue Sentinel guy shows up. Well poo poo, this just went from bad to worse.
7. Geop and the Sentinel enter the boss building.
8. I think to myself "yeah, he's not coming back and I don't want to sit here forever."
9. Leaving my hiding spot, I head to where Geop is, expecting some sort of anti-climactic fight.
10. Right here, I am at the top of the stairs expecting him to find me and fight.

11. He's not noticing me.
12. Wait, is he going to open the one door that leads to a drop?
13. HE'S OPENING THE DOOR THAT LEADS TO A DROP!
14. Run up and knock Geop into the drop.
15. I emit wheezy laughing sounds.

Bravo.

Poor Blue Sentinel, he thought he'd finally get a token :(

Luna, and actually the whole of DS2, is designed to give you a grace period if you get invaded once or twice, win or lose, so if you had tried again you'd probably have been golden.

Yeah you'll get 1 person summoned on you immediately, short delay on 2nd, then there's a long delay before you're eligible to be invaded again the Belfry.

It's also a completely optional area.
