About that jump in the sentinel boss room, you can actually get to that ledge via a secret door. Remember the secret on the lower level that had the ladder and the chest? Near that chest is another door that leads right to the ledge with the goodies, no jumping required.

That "try above" message in the bonfire room was in fact for the bonfire room itself, not the corridor leading out of it.
