Still just "September". I wouldn't expect the launch until late September, possibly even September 30. Since they are still struggling to meet demand for the 3900X they'll want to build up as much stock as possible before launch.

TSMC is having capacity problems with their 7nm process. I guess this could make it difficult for AMD to produce as many Zen 2 and rDNA chips as the need?

I'm not sure I believe that leak. For one thing, if AMD has low powered six and eight core cpus they haven't announced them yet, and this is also a marked segment where Ice Lake would presumably be quite competitive. So what would compel Microsoft to go all in on AMD like this?

Depends. If you are getting 1.42V while fully loading all cores rendering video or other demanding tasks that's a bit much. If HWinfo reports 1.42V while mostly idling at the desktop that's expected behavior. When lightly loaded Ryzen will briefly spike voltage to wake up a core, rapidly stabilize it at high boost speed to take care of some task before putting it back to sleep.

It would be a bit strange to talk about RDNA2 before the final RDNA1 card (the 5600) is even available. I really wouldn't expect replacements for the current cards until second half of the year. Though if the "Big Navi" rumors are true I suppose they could launch a flagship Radeon RXX 6900XTX EXXXTREME for a thousand bucks a few months ahead of the rest of their RDNA2 lineup.

Well, there was a rumour that Ampere would be produced on Samsung's 8nm process instead of TSMC's 7nm.

According to Tom's Hardware AMD is looking into big.LITTLE hybrid CPUs.quote:The method described in AMD's patent appears to allow the processor to independently sort out which type of thread should run on each cluster based on the instructions supported by the cores within. The threads could also shift between the cores based on utilization. For example, if the large core is underutilized, the processor would shift the thread to the small core (provided it supports the instructions). If the small core is over-utilized, the thread would shift to the larger core (again, provided it supports the instructions).

PC gamers probably don't have to worry about getting an SSD as fast as the PS5 . Multi platform (and Xbox) games will be designed to work with the slower storage of the new Xbox, and first party games from Sony will generally not get a PC port.

gradenko_2000 posted:is "7nm manufacturing" a technology that's available in a public/open sense? I can't imagine that it's something that GloFo (or Intel, for that matter) could just, like, copy from TSMC. No, but GloFo claimed they had successfully developed a 7nm process before announcing they would not use it because they didn't think there was enough demand.
