BiohazrD posted:actually i just use 1080p because 4k is a gimmick designed to create a 3 year TV cycle, just like 3d was. the consensus seems to be that hdr is more noticeable than 4k, and they will never make an hdr 1080p so might as well get 4k

KOTEX GOD OF BLOOD posted:theres a big and obvious difference between 1080 and 4k content on either my 32" monitor or my 55" tv (from ~8' away.) again the only reason u wouldnt believe this is a thing is not having a 4k display. i have a 65" 4k oled in the basement theater room because oled is actually cool and good, normally id get a commerical/pro display through work because then i can get it without the smart tv garbage (and with IP control) but for OLED its not there yet akadajet posted:I watch movies on my calibrated 4k computer monitor. gently caress you. lol

hey pagancow do you have a strong opinion on whether a consumer HDMI device should handle YCC 4:2:2, 4:4:4, 4:2:0 in addition to the standard RGB 4:4:4 scheme? They charge extra to get cert for the YCC formats Asking for a friend

They charge extra to get cert for the YCC formats You need 4:4:4 so you can do Dolbys magic 12-bpc YUV 4:2:2 over 10-bpc. YCC formats are important because some cameras only output that format, and you don't want it being scaled or changed when it goes over the wire. pure bits

didnt read the thread past the first page but lol if you collect media with intent to consume it more than once, instead of immediately throwing it away into the black hole that is your failing memory, before moving onto the next thing and repeating this cycle until you die.
