If you were actually hoping for a good thread you might want Captain Baal's excellent OP, this is just for us to rant about how unjust the Assassination of Goro Akechi by the Coward Akira Kurusu was.

Future Prime Minister Char Armstrong has been the hypest fight in the series thanks to Rivers in the Desert

Just like Yaldaboath is basically a shadow of YHVH (referenced even in his name) the archangels you fight are themselves really just reflections, as explained early on by Morgana that all the demons you face are really just taking on cultural masks. It's not like mainline SMT games where the demons are actually demons. Plus you can fuse and get your own versions of those archangels and do mirror fights if you so like.

E: the whole final sequence feels like an homage to SMT: Original Recipe.

Arsene was so much fun and it's really disappointing we didn't get more of him, or really any of the other Personas. If there is one thing I'd like to see more of in this series, it's more integration of the main cast's Personas into the story.

So FYI, for people who didn't get it. If you don't max Mishima's confidant, Floral Pants Man will instead rally all of Japan in your favor to defeat Yaldabaoth with Satanael, he is truly the hero.

So is it supposed to be intentional that the general public forgets about Goro immediately despite being obsessed with him, in the same way that they all forget about the Phantom Thieves or is that giving them too much credit and they just flubbed the end of his arc.

I mean we don't really get to see much of the general public's reaction and fallout tbh. The time between Shido's palace and the final dungeon has almost the entirety of Tokyo under hosed up mind control and then we don't really get a read after that.

I like Goro Akechi as a character, but he's most important in the story as contrast to Joker's taking on the mantle of being the Trickster. The fact he is embodied in the Personas of Robin Hood and Loki, sort of the ur-examples of a "good thief" and a "trickster god", goes to show he had precisely the same sort of opportunity as the main character do what was right. Instead, he decided to murder people and make himself famous, engineering psychotic breaks and then creating cases for him to solve as a detective prince.

The main character could likewise use his power to do this, but the temptation simply doesn't exist for him, despite getting hosed over by society, and it comes down to the fact he is doing it for others, not himself. Both in the instigating event with Shido, and then in Kamoshida's palace, where Ryuji's presence is more than just there to introduce a party member. Joker wouldn't have awakened to his power without having someone to save. To me, this is handled x1000 better than the awakening of P3 or P4's antagonist, and likewise the dynamic against a darker half is done a lot better than in Adachi's case.

What happened to Akechi was unfair, but nobody damned him but himself, so him dying by his "own" gun was basically a perfect way for it to end, though there should have been more followup. I get that everyone was being manipulated by the Holy Grail at that point, but its still disappointing.

I feel like its a saliant criticism of the endgame that after a ton of build up about the public and public opinion/cognition after the metaverse is gone the story immediately focuses entirely on Joker's personal story and never ventures out. There's no real explaination or fallout from the fact he reveals himself as a phantom thief and turns himself in, no examination of what impact their actions had on the elections etc.

Dropping the followup on Goro is just part of that sharp limit in focus.

There's little blurbs you can catch about Akechi here and there, mostly through the Phansite comments and public blurb interlude screens. Mostly just "whatever happened to Akechi-kun anyways?". That's pretty much the extent of anyone ever mentioning him again though. Perhaps dying in the metaverse has an affect on people's cognition of you?

I think he was part of the goon squad like any of Shido's other "clients" were. Someone who wanted a place of power that Shido could blackmail and put under his thumb, plus the implication that Shujin acted as a feeder school into the government as a high end prep school among a bunch of office buildings and I believe the SIU building itself.

New meat.

As a school principal he could essentially funnel the most promising (and most subservient) students on to Shido's wheelhouse. I imagine if Makoto had stayed on the path of dealing with him she could have ended up being passed upwards to him too.

Yeah, the only thing that never really made sense to me is why Shujin accepted Joker as a student in the first place. Especially when you had King of the school Kamoshida pissed off about it.
