Zeroisanumber posted:Might be that I'm numb to the subtler forms of antisemitism because I've spent the last year watching Nazis murder people, but what exactly is the problem with Corbyn? Does Labour have an antisemitism problem? There are antisemites in the labour party as there are in probably any sufficiently large group of people. There are actually fewer than in other political parties in britain and their numbers apparently have actually gone down during Corbyn's leadership. So in that respect whether "labour" has an antisemitism problem depends on what you call an antisemitism problem but if they do, it's less of one than anyone else in britain apparently has. As for corbyn himself, he has a long long history of being pro-palestine which means he has probably shared platforms with actual antisemites on occasion because it's really hard for a backbench MP to exhaustively research the views of everyone he goes to the same event as for decades, and also his criticism of Israel in of itself provokes reaction from three groups: those who think israel isn't doing anything wrong and thus the only reason to be criticizing it is antisemitism, those who think israel isn't doing anything wrong and thus accusations of antisemitism are a useful way to deal with any criticism of israel, and those who just plain old don't want corbyn to succeed politically and and see accusations of antisemitism as a useful tool to prevent that.

accusations of anti-Semitism against Corbyn are the ones that have stuck most because of Britain's unflinching bootlicking of Israel in recent times, just by suggesting Palestinians shouldn't be gunned down in the streets he is an enemy of major Jewish political groups who all get the media spotlight whereas the Jewish groups that agree with Corbyn are told to gently caress off and stay quiet

Cerv posted:Your tweeter is apparently unaware that Ireland already doesn’t use European time zones? Unlikely to start now It is not about the time zone, but that the EU will no longer change the clocks twice a year, and there is a chance the UK will continue to do so, meaning that there will probably be general confusion, people showing up an hour late or early for appointments, etc. So for half the year Northern Ireland will be an hour ahead or behind the Republic. And though I suppose this applies between the EU and everywhere, I imagine it will be most annoying for the UK twoday has issued a correction as of 15:52 on Sep 1, 2018 |
