How has it been physically inside the parliament chambers this week? Is there still a veneer of civility or is it all shouting and pointing? Is it going to come to blows or anything?

Edit: or alternately is everyone just despondent and staring at the floor?

What does May even say when EU people ask her why an extension would increase the chance of coming to some kind of agreement? And do they believe her, or just say fine whatever, see you next week?

In other words, that accent isn’t an affectation, he’ll use the same voice to order venison from his village butcher.
Every time I watch Lawrence of Arabia I think, you could question basically everything Lawrence did but he was still the only officer in the whole movie that actually left the officer's lounge.

So you disagree that the most likely chance is some variety of delaying brexit indefinitely? That's sure what looks like is happening to me.

I just saw the Japanese transliteration of Brexit for the first time and it was hosed up. ブリグジット, burigujitto.

Edit: most of the time it's just EU離脱

Actually who pronounces Brexit with a voiced x sound? You can check by putting your hand over your larynx and feeling if it's vibrating during that sound. Whoever made that Japanese transliteration apparently does.

Wait, you don't? How do you pronounce it then?

IPA /brɛksɪt/. Wikipedia also lists /ˈbrɛɡzɪt/.

At least the first BBC announcer I checked did it like me, though.

edit: this is about the most common kind of dialectical variation in pronunciation across languages though so it doesn't surprise me much.

Reading a bit more it sounds like a voiced x sound is more common in America. It's just an extension of voicing the x in "exit". It's not part of my dialect though.

I guess I still don't understand the mechanics of this. What do they have that makes them more personally wealthy if the UK's trade deals collapse, which will make them more powerful than their current position at the top of national politics fighting over this?

Like, I think about wealthy and powerful pro-life advocates in America. Their power and wealth comes from the fight itself, not actually winning the fight. I thought that powerful Leave advocates would be in that position now.

Once in my high school American history class the teacher just stopped the lesson and started ranting, saying "Skin color is just an environmental adaptation! People from places with more direct sunlight get darker skin! That's it! GOD!!"

Yeah, it was afterwards that I learned that light skin was the adaptation, not the other way around. The point is that we took a relatively minor element of human adaptation and made it a whole world out of it, just because it's on the surface of us and our brains are ultimately superficial as all hell.
