This might be a little peripheral to what's being discussed in the thread, but I just came back from reading Kill All Normies and found it to be a very interesting read that's also sure to ruffle some feathers on the commentariat left. I've seen it mentioned here so I also thought I'd give it a recommend. While it deals with the typical right-wing culture warrior phenomena like GG etc. it also has some pretty scathing things to say about what's been going on in some of the more witch-hunt-y liberal progressive circles on Tumblr and Twitter. While it's not a transformative manifesto in any way and doesn't try to chart a course out of the lovely discourse we see on Youtube and elsewhere, it's also one of the more even-handed accounts of the online culture wars I've seen that's still from a feminist, broadly leftist position.

Video game "journalism" has been in bed with the industry since the very beginning of people writing for video games in magazines. Focusing on whatever happened between Quinn and whatever her games writer friends wrote about her as the flash point of some kind of sinister conspiracy against gamers displays a rather telling and sad lack of knowledge of the state the industry's always been in.

It really is impossible to discern what portion of the 'chans are genuine nazis from those who are just parroting that poo poo because gently caress you dad, though when that's all you joke about you really are a broke-brained, tragic human anyway. Which is why the idea that women simply aren't constructed to enjoy nerd media and only do it for attention or social capital is so alien and idiotic to me, but I can kind of understand that notion (but not the rabid commitment to it) if the people who hold it never met girls who enjoyed the same things as them growing up. Though it's also likely that they did, but dismissed them as inauthentic or abnormal and shoved it into the memory hole.

I have a circle of friends with one guy that comes in now and then who I used to be friends with from childhood who's been sliding pretty deep into the meme hole for a number of years now. Tried talking to him a number of times but I fear it's a lost cause. He's a pretty typical underachiever gamer dude whose political awakening was when GG was in full swing. That tantrum really hosed a lot of people in the head it seems.

Destiny seems to be getting in hot water with the skeptic crowd after the Bunty video but holds his own pretty well. It's very interesting seeing how hurt and bewildered the skeptics get when called useful idiots for white supremacists and nazis when they exclusively poo poo on zany tumblr posts and holds them up as representative of the left in its totality, but will gladly accuse anyone left of center of being pro-gulag in the same breath. It's also fun to see when someone is asked to come up with a real world example for why

Golden One is like dysphoria.jpg. It's nuts. Had a dude friend who is now a lady friend who swoled the gently caress up a few years before she began transitioning. Went from a lankier Arnold to a Disney princess in 3 years, a 1 in a 1000 success story type thing. Very happy for her, though she wasn't far removed from The Golden One physically (or in terms of opinions...) for a while there. Happy for Contra too! Didn't know she was transitioning, or even that she considered herself a she, though I guess it was kind of in the cards. It's been quite a journey.

De facto acceptance and tolerance will only lead to them being emboldened and will strengthen their resolve no matter how much you shake your head and tsk tsk at them. Until one of them does go Timothy McVeigh 2.0 no matter what you do. Breivik didn't turn into a terrorist because of loving antifa. If they're not sufficiently suppressed by the police, or worse, if the police tolerates and treats them with kid gloves, society will have to find other means to do the police's job.

Yeah, it's just one aspect of reacting to the presence of fascism in society, like OF says. You have initiatives from groups like Life After Hate who can pick up the repentant memers and people who grow out of it, the police (if they deign to do their job) can get the violent terrorist nazis off the streets or whenever a nazi demo turns out to be illegal or starts loving with the cops, like a recent one in Sweden. Nazi punching is not a means to an end, it's a spontaneous act of community self-defense in the then and there.
