except for Trump the issue was he constantly over-performed polls and had that whole 'hidden Trump support' thing going, and Le Pen is performing exactly like polling shows and that's not good for her?

We saw how well that played out in a country that establishes which regions has votes based on size and where literally 40% of the population would still vote for one of the major parties if they found a way to resurrect Hitler and put him in charge.

The terrible banker is leading by nearly 30 points.

She uh, lost by a narrow margin of voters in swing states due to the electoral college after being ahead by a narrow margin in polls

He's up 20+ points in polls and is going to win unless something insane happens between now and the final vote or the Clintonistas are right that Vladimir Putin's crack cyber terror squad is now in control of all elections on Earth

So I'm not sure how USA 2016 played out is gonna help

i don't think the guy who's responsible for the PS and current admin being as hated as it is now will show too well against fascist le pen in an election where voters are calling for change

Polling was right in the US elections too. They were within the margin of error nationally in November.

i hope it stops it, but i'm not at all hopeful that the establishment candidate who's had a big hand it why things are how they are in france is gonna do well against an anti-establishment candidate. hillary was polling at certain to win when the primary ended and she still flubbed it to trump, and she wasn't as involved as macron was in the recent hated french admin

"The fascist candidate won in areas where he polled with razor thin margins of defeat, polling has betrayed me" is the rallying cry of people who don't understand a thing about stats.

I totally agree that Macron is a really lame candidate, it's just that none of the polling reflects the idea that the french voters are eager for his blood and hungry for Le Pen's flavor of 'change'. They're not exactly popping boners for the dude, but in the face of a choice between 'lame kinda poo poo banker' and 'far right nationalist that will do poo poo like try to get out of the EU and thinks colonialism was a good thing for Africa and poo poo' France's voters are going 'yea gently caress I guess give me the banker' by a larger margin than Clinton's polls had her over Trump.

Does anybody know enough about the culture of the French far right to speculate meaningfully on whether Le Pen's gender is a hindrance, asset, or non-factor in her chances?

I think it helps that Macron can say he left early enough, also he's not of the Socialist who obviouslywere the ones trying to gently caress the french people. At least Melachon showed the left has some actual spirit in it. Also Potou did better then they thought he would. (I have a second cousin who was an auto worker so I always like the idea of auto workers . ALso nice to see Republicans got third. Hope this leads to another messy leadership fight.

Because France's system is essentially built so that the first round allows a plurality of ideas (also because chances are most of that 6% would never have voted by someone endorsed by the PCF and it's hard to get over the ego trip of leading the majority party)

Mostly a non-factor; the tiny fraction that didn't want her in charge is represented by one of the 1% no hopers already and she's broadly anti feminist.
