We saw how well that played out in a country that establishes which regions has votes based on size and where literally 40% of the population would still vote for one of the major parties if they found a way to resurrect Hitler and put him in charge. The terrible banker is leading by nearly 30 points.

I totally agree that Macron is a really lame candidate, it's just that none of the polling reflects the idea that the french voters are eager for his blood and hungry for Le Pen's flavor of 'change'. They're not exactly popping boners for the dude, but in the face of a choice between 'lame kinda poo poo banker' and 'far right nationalist that will do poo poo like try to get out of the EU and thinks colonialism was a good thing for Africa and poo poo' France's voters are going 'yea gently caress I guess give me the banker' by a larger margin than Clinton's polls had her over Trump.

At least Melachon showed the left has some actual spirit in it. Also Potou did better then they thought he would. (I have a second cousin who was an auto worker so I always like the idea of auto workers . ALso nice to see Republicans got third. Hope this leads to another messy leadership fight.

Because France's system is essentially built so that the first round allows a plurality of ideas (also because chances are most of that 6% would never have voted by someone endorsed by the PCF and it's hard to get over the ego trip of leading the majority party)

Mostly a non-factor; the tiny fraction that didn't want her in charge is represented by one of the 1% no hopers already and she's broadly anti feminist.
