the remaster is worth it even if you're watching on some clapped out old CRT because the color is WAY better now that it hasn't been destroyed by dodgy late-80s videotape editing technology

owners at lastjob decided they wanted to do a big sales "scoreboard" display on the wall of their sales floor. so they got five ~60" 1080p TVs (with ultra-thin bezels), turned them sideways, and ganged them all into a single 5400x1920 display. their idiot contractor tried to do it on a mac mini at first and then eventually gave up and built out a custom PC in some 4u rackmount case and stuck one of those AMD eyefinity video cards in it.

goddamn thing was fuckin' janky as poo poo and any time there was a power outage it was guaranteed at least one of the TVs would fuckin' lose the connection and we'd have to have to talk someone through reaching around the rackmount to wiggle/reseat the HDMI plugs, because we didn't have any IT staff on location there.

the TVs alone cost a little over $10K apiece if I remember right, because of the minimal bezel requirement.

sharp makes 90 and 100 inch displays, too

bigger than that and you have to go to specialist suppliers

is there a specific factory that does small runs of huge-rear end LCDs, or do they basically do one-off builds?

supplier got wise half way through the remainder of the contract and threatened to sue, so about once a semester some poor computer janitor had to physically disable the hardware (originally by throwing it down a literal flight of stairs, though they eventually just started using hammers because lol @ cleaning up the mess in the stairwell) or arrange for student orgs (who depended on the college's it scraps) to steal poo poo

that department was... weird, but it made sense from a cash point of view apparently.

lmao that's loving awesome

we've still got win 7 but it's all on older computers. we actually have a refresh cycle here so we're just buying new computers with win10 and eventually there won't be win7 computers left.
