Calibration was straightforward once we settled on Racing as the best starting point. Most gaming monitors have a mode called Standard that unlocks all adjustments but the MG279Q doesn't. The other modes we measured were adjustable, but required too many changes to achieve accurate color. Unfortunately, the sRGB mode is not the best choice and locks out all adjustments so we were unable to make use of it.

care to weigh in

Weeellllll

in the 90s there were some corners cut to make the production budget, especially in the first 2 seasons of TNG. The show was shot on 4 perf 35mm film, but the lenses used were not very high quality, so really going beyond 800 lines of resolution seems to be a stretch. I'd say if he's scaling properly in the display he's using that he's not missing much if anything from watching on a real 1920x1080P display.

Your cell phone records in open shutter because light gathering capabilities of a sensor the size of an eraser head can never match something the size of about 2 postage stamps.

hello monitors thread, i need some advice

i need to prep a mobile-ish setup that involves 3 displays and my needs have been p well suited by p series dell stuff (i'm mostly doing financial/production/code stuff so no need for fancy gamut options)

thinking of grabbing another set of p2217h, is there anything stuff i should be looking at?

No color critical work on these but Dell tends to calibrate their panels off the lot to hit gamma 2.2 and a proper greyscale without any weird scaling or bullshit other manufacturers offer as "features"

yes, features like "modes" modes are codeword for "we did not calibrate this loving thing at all"
