The Atlantic's review of the first few episodes (spoilers for the first few episodes, obviously) mentions that line specifically. Anyways, I was extremely skeptical of this show when it was announced, mostly since then the casting choices went against my book-headcanon casting, which was admittedly ridiculous, but I was mostly happy with the choices they've made so far, and I'm excited to watch more. The visuals of the Technical Kid's limo and the lynching allusions of the Children beating & hanging Shadow where really well done. I'm not sold on the strawberry jam gore though.
