God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Who will wipe this blood off us? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent?

Ian McShane saying swear words at me is worth whatever investment I make in this show. Loved episode 1, for what it's worth.

Is the show actually good? I'm weary of anything Gaiman and the glee that people on my Facebook with horrible taste (e.g. Suicide Squad fans) had for this adaptation makes me hesitant to pick it up

My picky-as-hell friend (I had to prod him into trying "Deadwood" and "The Wire" for crying out loud) who has never read anything by Gaiman is super into it after the first episode. He was texting me throughout the premiere and I asked him as a non-book reader how he liked it. He said "I've got no real clue on what's going on narrative wise, but what they've put on the screen is endlessly engaging." First episode might grab you by the nuts, or your hesitancy might sour the experience. I'd say go in with an open mind and if you don't like it, you're only out an hour.

Just to reiterate I wasn't kidding here, they actually did this.

Just read an interview with fuller over at vulture. It was that and baby oil to get the sheen. Also, they reshot the scene because the djinn would, in the words of fuller, need a "candy cane cock" to make the angles worked as originally shot for penetration to work.

Regarding Catholicism and anti-immigrant loons, Iowa's Rep Steve king is Catholic and has blasted Mexicans with "cantaloupe calves" walking bales of weed across the desert saying for every valedictorian there's 100s of drug mules. Recently he said "We can't restore our civilization with someone else's babies." gently caress Steve king, and Catholics like him. That poo poo is not the Catholicism I was raised on.

Also OWLS!, Vulcan took something European (the Webley and himself) and made it 'Murican (with .45 caliber rounds and rednecks firing into the air).

OWLS! posted:

True on the European becoming American part, except the caliber, the 445 webley is actually an original webley cartridge. :science:

(Yes, I paused the video to take a closer look at the case head, yes, I am a loving nerd to know obscure calibers. Gonna gently caress off back to TFR now).

I'll have to go back and look, but I thought Vulcan's revolver had 45 stamped on the casings. But we can bring the discussion to the TFR's movie/show thread to spare these poor people from our gun sperging.

It turns out that "Hell is other people" was wildly inaccurate.

I forgot how much I enjoy looking at Ricky Whittle, so coming across that was a nice surprise this morning, if nothing else.

Also has anyone picked up the season one Blu-ray or DVD? Any cool extra features or anything?

I impulse bought the Blu-Ray for $10 or something similar during a trip to Wal-Mart or Target and I forgot I had until this comment reminded me. I think I'll take some time to start watching it tonight. I can't speak to the quality of the special features, but there sure are a lot listed:

- "The Road to American Gods" Documentary
- Title Gods
- God Squad Video Commentary
-American Gods origins
- Old Gods
- New Gods
- What is American Gods? (Knowing nothing about the feature, that sure seems like a weird thing to have on a TV series I've bought)
- Book vs Show
- Explore the Crocodile Bar in 360 Degrees with commentary by cast and crew
- Audio commentaries with cast and crew

Book/season 2 finale:
So is anyone else thinking that everything in Lakeside could get wrapped up in a time-skip summary episode to kick off season 3? Most of what happens there could be vignettes, I think.

Though given how S2 meandered, it would be a little out of character.

I bet they let it play out for the season as it happened in the book as a cost saver. I bet they can find some small town in America or Canada that'll drown them in tax credits to shoot season 3 there. Seems like a natural fit given the introduction of Sam black crow this season. Just my guess

Oh Ian McShane is fantastic but his character sucks. He‘a playing a character from Lost essentially. Someone who keeps information to themselves for no good reason.

at least in the book he's got a drat fine reason.

somehow i wound up sharing Orlando's GREAT "angry gets poo poo done" clip on the middle passage with a friend of mine via text a week or two back and he loved the clip despite never having watched the show and it piqued his interest. i shouldn't have done that ciz now he wants to watch the show :negative:
