Honestly it probably would've been better to do it in an abstract way like this because man it looked laughably bad on the show. Edit: Goddamn this whole scene is just awful, though. Hakkesshu fucked around with this message at 07:51 on May 4, 2017 |

This episode was much better than the first one. Gillian Anderson + Peter Stormare makes for some fuckin great television.

I kind of hated the first half of this episode just because she was such an unlikeable character, but once she started pooping formaldehyde I was back in. Shame there was no real progression in this episode, but I'll take it.

Yeah I feel like they should have just stuck all her scenes in one episode and have that be that, because spacing them out across the season served zero purpose. Every other vignette had a clear message (and in most cases characters like Anansi ended up interacting with the main cast if only briefly), all we know about Bilquis is that she likes unbirthing people and she is going to some place that is apparently meaningful but not at all if you haven't read the book. All it did was make me loathe that awful character.

The edgy part was her eating people with her vagina obviously

Warren Ellis wrote a conceptually rad but maybe not as cool in execution book called Supergod where world war 3 is fought using gods as WMDs and it's maybe not that relevant to anything in American Gods but man the Hindu deities own and I just want them to come in and own everything.

That show fell off a cliff, they had some pretty rad, subtler shots of Odin in the very first episode.

I thought it was a pretty good episode! Slow start, but once the caroussel got going it was pretty much the same stuff I loved about last season. Though Shadow's line about "aren't you worried about cancer?" was really stupid.

New media sucks, but only by comparison. Show is good but I wish it was even more meandering and brought back the Somewhere in America bits from season 1 that had no relevance to the main plot.

I interpreted it like even if no one believed in him directly, his dogma is still incredibly important to the modern world, and so he had established a unique position between the old and new gods that granted him a lot of power. His identity isn't so relevant, any god or superhuman with that kind of observation aspect being could've potentially filled that role - it's not like Mad Sweeney or the Djinn are driven by belief either, I don't think.

I'm not a book reader, and I don't really give a gently caress about the overarching plot. The weird atmosphere and smaller stories are always what I've enjoyed about this show.

What the hell is going on with the casting on this show It's actually one of the few cases where it does make sense to change actors, but since they don't do it consistently it's just weird

The second season of American Gods may not have had much plot movement but it was way loving better than poo poo like Heroes season 2 and doesn't really deserve to be part of that category. It doesn't come together as well as season 1 did, but the production and performances were still top notch. The Sweeney episode alone has more artistic merit than the entirety of Heroes.

TBH I would be fine with the entire show just being about talking to different weird gods and nothing else, shame they can't actually keep any actors around

Yeah Counterpart really isn't anything like Control whatsoever other than the fact that there's a secret government agency looking into Weird poo poo. Fringe is the correct touchstone. You should still watch Counterpart because it's loving great.
