No it felt more like basically every segment that Death was in in the Sandman were it would talk to the dead and lead them to their afterlife (sometimes while trying on a really cool hat from the Emperor of North America) I hope we get more Death god segments.

You know another thing I like about American Gods is that Gaiman continues the trope of the Hecate sisters with the Zorya sisters. I also like how Gaiman made up those characters and they have no basis in actual slavic mythology

He made up the 3rd sister though, that's probably what you're remembering. Mixing the slavic Zorya sisters in with the Hecate sisters or the three Greek Fates.

Yeah Gaiman just likes the idea of the trinity with the maiden, the mother, and the crone. It was great in the Sandman when the Hecate sisters were based on famous pop culture interpretations of witches.

I just want to see some of the one offs like the life and death of Emperor Norton I or Prez the Teenage President. Honestly it would work better as an animated cartoon too, but that would be a tough sell for a prestige show I bet.

I mean despite all this I'll still probably enjoy it if anything else it'll try being like the novel, which sure is kind of too late with the wheels they've set in motion. Though I wonder what roles or moves that they made have made Gaiman upset since he seems like one of those authors who doesn't mind if they change things to suit the medium.

So Fremantle had a lot to lose if he upset Gaiman and from what I understand, after everything with Mike Carey and the Lucifer tv show, Gaiman has become a lot more protective of his work.

Well it makes sense since Good Omens is only happening because Gaiman is trying to fulfill Terry's wish to have it adapted; that and I don't think Gaiman has control of The Sandman so really American Gods is like his only big thing that he has control over to get adapted.

He's not a god or demon or spirit. He's just a figure from one single myth where his most famous exploit was falling asleep at his job and getting killed. He never received any worship. Why does he have power? Why is he constantly reborn? Why is he suddenly some sort of surveillance entity that both factions are fighting over? It feels like there's suddenly a different ruleset in place but no one bothered updating anyone else about it.

I did like New Media tho

Argus is basically like Mr. Wood from last season, an old being that has sold out to the new gods

It's simply that Argus in mythology isn't a god and Argus in history was never worshiped by anyone so I simply don't understand why he's treated like the other gods here. And I feel like we really have a set some ground rules for what sort of myth and magic is actually allowable in this world, or else it's going to fall victim to the sort of internal inconsistency that plagues a lot of other fictional settings.

Yeah I think Gaiman was like "What would be a good mythology thing to rep Mass Surveillance" more surprising since he typically likes to not do Classical Mythology in his stories. Maybe he was talking to Rick Riordan when he came up with this?

Avengers fans who didn't know the mythology were angry that Gaiman was depicting Thor as a drunken dumbass instead of a noble hero.

He also looked very wonky, but yeah Thor in Norse Mythology is kind of just a brutal giant killing machine.
