Goddamn that was a great first episode. I don't think I could have imagined such a great adaptation for a book as out-there as American Gods, but leave it to Fuller. The casting is fantastic. I didn't even realize Sweeney was Pornstache in OITNB until I looked him up. My only complaint is that some of the effects seemed a little unfinished for a Starz production, but that was minor. Really excited to see viewers new to the premise posting here. I remember my reaction the first time reading it like 10 years ago, and you guys are in for a trip.

Closing the dick pic only to have it transfer to the digital photo frame is such a ridiculously Gaiman thing, and I loved it

Excellent. Thank you. I'm really impressed by the whole cast, really. I like the Whittle is giving Shadow some personality, since I don't remember him having much of one at all in the book. It's nice Gaiman and Fuller want to give all these side characters a little more room to breath, too, since you don't cast someone like Gillian Anderson and then just leave her in one scene. I'm really excited to see what new stuff they do with her, Czernobog, and the others.

achillesforever6 posted:No it felt more like basically every segment that Death was in in the Sandman were it would talk to the dead and lead them to their afterlife (sometimes while trying on a really cool hat from the Emperor of North America) I hope we get more Death god segments. I really want to see a portrayal of Sandman Death at some point in my life. She's the best. The Jesus thing is especially funny because it seems like the writers knew that there would be a ton of people who had not read the books yet. I need to scrawl Twitter reactions for really offended people despite Wednesday talking about literal, actual Jesuses he knows of. If it's anything like after the Bilquis scene in episode one, the Twitter reactions for this show have been worth the production costs alone.

I loved this ep. I can see how, if they wanted to stick with the book, they definitely could have tightened up the story to go a bit faster for one season. However, I like the fact that they are expanding on characters. Sweeney was in, like, two scenes in the book and Laura was pretty much a non-starter every time she was around. Giving Browning and Schreiber chances to expand their acting chops a bit is pretty drat welcome and keeps the series from being just a complete play-by-play of the book. Soothing Vapors posted:a realistic approximation of meeting Kristin Chenoweth Fun fact: I worked on the WB lot when Pushing Daisies was filming. Kristin would ride around on a bike almost as tall as she was (all 5-ish feet of her) with a handlebar basket for her dog. She's about as adorable and sweet as you can imagine. This was probably my favorite music moment of the show so far outside of the theme. Pretty incredible that it's an original instead of a licensed piece.
