Speak not of the Watchers! La La La La La La!

Hopefully we'll head back down into the Abyss one last time and soul-knife the big statue thing, since it had the same kind of barrier the Palace did.

As for the Palace, it did feel just completely out of place, but I think that's because the design forced you to use all the tricks you had in your back in such unforgiving ways. Also the buzz saws just add the tension that you have to go now fast, when waiting and watching gets you through quite often.

The reason I like the White Palace is the fact that Hollow Knight's movement is so tight and responsive and you get such a great mobility kit that the game warrants a serious platforming challenge. It's like a platforming equivalent of the more difficult dream refights or the Colosseum of Fools though I guess the difference is that none of those are specifically required for the true ending.

Actually doing at least two of the dream refights, along with a lot of the dream warriors, are mandatory to get the "true" ending. You need the Awakened Dream Nail.

Only one refight is necessary, actually. They're optional in the sense that you can pick one to do and don't have to worry about the others.

Terribly sorry about the double post but I do have to report on LP progress.

First off, there's a high chance of no update next week due to mandatory overtime at my job last week killing my recording schedule. That being said, we're at the endgame; I've recorded the Watchers tonight and plan to do the big ending hopefully this weekend. However I did boast this is a 100% LP, and with how huge this game is I honestly cannot remember where everything is. This is where you come in thread. I need you, IN SPOILER TAGS, to list off anything I might've forgotten that would contribute to 100%. I'll list what I can, but odds are i've forgotten a multitude of things and will need help remembering.

What I've recorded so far:
-Every Spirit Tree
-The Last Warrior Dream and 2400 Dream Nail
-The last of the Grubflies. And yes...***that***
-Coliseum Rank 2
-Maximum Sword.

What I can recollect needing:
-The Worst Escort Quest ever
-The Fools Arena
-Mask & Spirit Shards
-Charm Notches I may have missed (Got the fog one.)

Also, Grimm Troupe made getting a very special thing MUCH harder dammit.

Before Grimm Troupe there were exactly two collectable charm notches in the game. You say you got the fog canyon one, the other one most people get much earlier from fighting two big mushrooms in fungal washes. Any other charm notches you're missing are sold by Salubra. Also she sells you a thing if you return to her after owning 36 charms.

I, Giorno Giovanna, have a dream!

I can't think of anything required for 100% that you're missing. Do you know about the thing you can do with the mask maker? Specifically, use descending dark on him. Are you planning to get the secret ending? Oh, and I'm sure you know to show what happens after you get the fully upgraded nail with Sheo?

Having a hard time figuring what you're referring to here. The closest I can think of would be the journal but it's worth noting that several things are of the flavor of "included but not required".

Admittedly, anything Grimm Troupe adds in that regard would fall under 100% in its own right, regardless of impact on Very Special Things.

Dancer

Max% is maybe slightly harder with GT because if you feed one of your fragile charms to that creature you lose the percentage point and you can't get it back until you grind the required amount of money.

Oh, gotcha. Even so, though, Divine between feeding and payment would be the only problem. Salubra doesn't care what tier of progress a changeable charm is at, so long as it can be equipped (read: I'm reasonably confident that half-kingsoul doesn't count).

I can confirm that last statement.

I did end up buying the game because of the LP, for what it's worth. Perhaps someday I may even be able to play it without the patches breaking some minor but irritating gameplay function. It is quite good in spite of that, however, and even more open-ended than one might guess from the LP. I explored a bunch of Deepnest before I even explored Soul Sanctum.

edit: I'll also add (although I've been trying to tune out most plot discussion since I started playing on my own), that the inversion of the light=good, dark=bad idea is cleverly done. Not the notion itself, which isn't particularly novel, but when your entire cast is bugs, it makes perfect sense. When you are a bug, Light is usually the precursor to getting splattered with a rolled up issue of Popular Mechanics. It is not your friend.

Huh. Never thought of it that way.

Also I wouldn't call the dark "good" but rather an ambivalent/neutral party. From what we've learned so far, the abyss/dark is just a resource that gets used. It doesn't seem to have sentience or morality.

Rangpur
Dec 31, 2008

Fair enough, I'm generalizing because I don't actually want to read deep into the discussion thus far before I play through the relevant parts of the game myself. We'll see if I can avoid getting sidetracked enough to catch up in time for the ending. Fortunately, they're keen to keep adding DLC fights to slow you down! :v:

Well I was kidding before, but I actually am catching up pretty quick. Is there anything required for the True End beyond reassembling that charm? (Including all the running around required to do that, of course, which does add up to an awful lot of hoops to jump through.)

There's a third piece to the charm.
