Aw, the little disappointed sounds the silkworm made when you couldn't make the jump over.

When you picked up the City Crest, I heard Rucks in my head for a second. Though I think having a storyteller going would probably a) not work in a Metroidvania and b) ruin the mood.

Please say there's a Hornet Mode to this game, like Julius/Richter mode in your Castlemetroidvanias.

Giraffe weevil looks pretty lovely, in its own way.

I really love the image of coming up to a cheerful sign that says "well done, you're almost there" just short of a collapsed bridge over a deadly chasm.

Man, all those masks inside the city gate do not bode well.

"ancient city kept going through sacrifice" is honestly a little too close to Dark Souls for comfort.

Huh. The effect when you collected the Desolate Dive actually puts me in mind a little bit of your post-Colossus effects in Shadow of the Colossus.

RedMagus posted:Which game is about killing an opera singer, Parasite Eve? It's certainly one of them. It seems like... the Dreamers? It seems like they're aware something is going wrong but they're compelled not to fix it.

Sealed up in dreams. Oh hell, what if the plague's started spreading through the collective unconscious?

It's kind of quietly hilarious that the Shinespark is a net loss to a speedrun.

Oh, you keep your shinespark going over screen transitions? That's a puzzle ingredient and no mistake.

Did mowing down all those little orange cells rack up the Hunter count for them, or are they strictly cosmetic?

It's interesting to see how games are trying to adapt to the age of Kickstarter. That said, yeah, giant fields of ash are just... Dark Souls as gently caress? I can't think of better words.

The village at the nest's heart. Yeah, those big ol' web orbs actually looked kind of civilized, or at least calm. Given how Paul Bunyan was kind of a Manifest Destiny dude, he probably logged an rear end-ton of railroad ties at some point.

If the City of Tears brought this doom down on its own head, I can see why the bees aren't in any hurry to help anyone from there. I mean, what, so they can drop Round 2?

Come to think of it, those worms must have been jarred pretty recently if they're all still alive.

Zote's first principle sounds pretty familiar. Ah well. At least he's somewhere he probably won't do any more harm.

Wow, that was a surprise. I wonder what the heck that thing's deal was? ...actually I wonder what the heck charms are that you can just pick up a bit of slug bolus and be "yeah, this'll fit in real nice."

That's interesting about Sly. Got dissatisfied with what the sword could do so he took up the merchant's scale?

The White Lady feels kind of different from everyone else we've talked to, and I think I've finally worked out why. She comes across as completely... unguarded. She's talking to us like we're not even there, which is kind of good and kind of bad, I think? But I don't get the feeling that she's holding anything back.

Even if we are a perfect vessel, even if we can put all the light back in the lightbulb, what's left at this point? I suppose after a few more generations of wanderers coming back to Dirtmouth they might dig lower and rebuild.

I like Quirrel's story here. I don't know if he died as much as left his nail behind and went somewhere to be a scholar. It seems that the world is vast, if desolate.

The alternate way to beat the end boss for the true end boss reminded me of one of the troidVanias more than anything. I suppose it's a good thing for all concerned that in the end, Hollow Knight Jr. was neither the wind nor the sun.
