Speaking of bikes... stepdad is cleaning out the garage at my parents house and found my cheap lovely bike. Called me asking if I wanted it.

It needs some work to be rideable again (mainly the shifters are all sorts of hosed up), but hey... bike I forgot about years ago suddenly reappears. There's plenty of trails around the lake nearby.

Oh poo poo, we've got a line on a Mercury Tracer LTS!

The LTS was, if anyone cares, a top of the line Ford Escort sedan with some LUXURY options (4 zone cooling or something?). And under the hood was the Mazda BP. Basically an Escort GT with lipstick. It's got 175K, some rusty doors but it runs and it's $1000. We might have a winner.

Same here. There was one super lovely base model I used to drive in high school that my brother spray painted a penis on to, but apart from that and the idler that gave up the ghost, it was a fun as heck whip.

The one you're lookin at thought is different from my high school model. It's awesome because it's so light. The guy that sold it to my dad said "yeah it's safe if you have all your affairs in order" which was an allusion to "if you're gonna die, I hope you're going to heaven because this thing is a luxurious tin can with a decent engine." Since my dad's a preacher he said "sure, here's your $1,200."

But it doesnt beat outdoors. Even with the notoriously awful to cyclists traffic Sydney has (Seriously, it's developing the reputation as most bike hostile place in the world. I don't disagree) and the routes / segments I've done 500 times+ (I've ridden across the Sydney Harbour Bridge 150 times just by itself!)

Just finished grinding a garbage welded-on surge brake coupler off my trailer. When they made the thing they butted the coupler right up to where the frame rails join the tongue, so the tongue was pretty short. After cleaning it up, I'm left with 4" of tongue. Cheap RWD 1980s Japanese car (my white whale is a good, mostly stock AE86 Levin or Nissan S12 hatch) to eventually repaint, find missing trim and chuck an SR20DET into for daily driving and straight up enjoying. I like poo poo old cars way more than anything modern.

t's road legal and appears mostly mechanically sound with a decent interior and the engine (while gutless) sounds ok. The paint is super poo poo and the missing bits of trim are mildly annoying.

For reference, RWD Japanese cars go for crazy money in Nz - probably because the huge majority of cars here are Japanese and mostly they've been fwd for like 35 years. The money the dude is asking is:
- approx 1/5th the cost of an AE86 with panel damage, non-road legal, etc

- less than all but the shittiest condition KP Starlet

-twice the price of an S12 rolling shell with no dash, engine or gearbox

I haven't seen a decent S12 for sale ever so I can't say what they normally go for (massively uncommon now) in comparison to this guys asking price.

Honestly if it was a S12 hatchback I'd have paid the man already, the notchback is slightly less desirable to me, and with the singlecam even more so. But I've literally never seen a good condition, running, road legal S12 hatch up for sale.

Why are you worrying about it or chasing it? as a buyer on ebay you can just file a claim and they will almost instantly side with you and give you your money back.

Only way the seller is gonna win is if there is some proof of delivery for your house - but it sounds like its not made it to you?. The seller should know this and they should be the person sitting on hold or just claiming against their shipping insurance.

That's kinda the crap one tho (The GTX Mazda version was better). The earlier TX3 AWD (1.6 litre turbo) was esp at it's time one eye opening lil beastie. Actually was the first AWD turbo I ever drove and certainly left an impression. That pictured generation was bit understeery and not a throwable IMO

Reputation also suffered due to gearbox detonations ad the appearence of the Lancer GSR..... which was a whole new level of fast. And then not long after Subaru dropped the WRX annnnd we all know how that went.

Fun can be a part of it but so can ease of use. I have a kayak but between loading, unloading and all the other poo poo it adds ~30 minutes before I even factor in driving time if I want to take it out. Or I could throw on some shorts and walk into the guest bedroom and hop on the rowing machine. Sure the kayak is more fun (most of the time) but the rowing machine is super convenient if I have a spare half hour and want to bust out some cardio to loud music. Same reason I have a basic squat cage and weights in the garage.

Way off topic but what's the smallest enclosed trailer you would tow a ~14.75 foot car in? I've started trailer shopping and plan to keep it small to help keep weight down since I'm towing with the Tacoma. I think a 16' v-nose would be a little tight but a 18' might be ok. Will probably go look at some trailers in a couple weeks when I have some time and take a bunch of measurements.

Well the early AWD's are touchy with gearboxes and boost. Also they tend to be centre diffs that are either full open or locked. You REALLY dont want to know what happens to a TX3 gearbox if you drive it locked on tarmac.......

I have good news on the Toyota GT4's. The ST165 is actually really friendly (open centre diff does that tho) and the ST205 is pretty drat good - I dont think it's much of a understeerer at all. In a lot of ways I actually prefer a ST205 over a WRX in stock form - it's a better built car and better interior, better gearbox and it def looks better. The issue for the ST205 in Aust was at the time the GT4 was offered at 80K while the WRX was 45K. Ummm.... yeah there is NOT twice the price difference between them. And certainly any performance advantage the ST205 had over the WRX vanished with the STI (which was still a lot cheaper).

I find it funny that the WRX in te early 90's was still looked at as huge bang for buck and yet 45K was a lot of coin then. Now look at WRX prices now and......... you can get one for LESS at the dealer so in real terms the price of a WRX has gone down quite a startling amount. 45K in 1994 is more like 80,000 now. Or in other terms, if you took the real value of a WRX today, it's the equivalent of 25000 in 1994. I cant think of any model car that has gone down in price like that in real terms.... 39K just seems to be a price point Subaru wont move from.
