Representative Al Green of Texas has made a public statement that Trump should be impeached immediately for obstruction of justice wrt firing Comey. He fired him mid investigation, said the investigation was part of why he fired him, and then attempted to intimidate the former director via the tape tweet. Still a pipedream, though.

Trump's lawyer is in Seattle fighting in court with the argument that nothing candidate Trump said matters and was not Trump being truthful. He never really wanted a Muslim ban, you see. He was just promising one to get racists to vote for him.

White House is of course denying it. I don't think every major outlet runs with it, though, if it weren't 100% true and verified. The verifications have revealed that it's actually worse than reported but some of the information was withheld to minimize damage.

So, here's hoping that the media isn't stepping in poo poo in a way that will make them all look like assholes. McMaster is saying exactly what he's told to say because even if it is a lie it is still a lawful order. He has no real choice but say what he's told to say or resign his commission. As he has not chosen the latter, I cannot give him any leeway. The media is not lying. Trump confirmed that himself this morning. McMaster has been extremely deliberate in what he's said and hasn't actually refuted what the media said. Every major news outlet has confirmed the story. The white house issued denial before trump copped to it because that's what they're told to do.

I've seen a few people try to downplay this as "it's just a memo" or "it's hearsay." While both are technically correct regarding Comey's memos, there's a lot more to it. Comey was a law enforcement officer. Keeping records of conversations is routine police work, and it is specifically carved out as a hearsay exception. In federal court, Comey's memos would be accepted as evidence and it would be on Trump to rebut them.

This tweet legitimate enough for here instead of the other thread: https://twitter.com/JohnJHarwood/status/865285997176729601 Comey's firing is 100% part of the investigation, as well according to Graham. So basically anyone up and down the chain that could be hit on obstruction charges potentially faces them now. Rosenstein also knew that Comey was going to be fired before he wrote his memo which is why he was so shocked to have the finger pointed solely at him at first. Everyone is hosed and it's amazing. This is also probably why Flynn hasn't responded to the senate subpoena because all his poo poo has already been scooped up via the grand jury. Comey was also investigating FBI leaks to Rudy as well, because gently caress it why not? Mr. Nice! fucked around with this message at 20:31 on May 18, 2017 |

Its not really that crazy. The only way that this can pass via simple majority in the senate is via reconciliation. The senate cannot pass a bill via this means if it's got a negative CBO score. Ryan is just waiting to see the score monday and preemptively adjust the bill so they don't have to vote again after the senate does. It'll probably pass again in whatever horrid form the senate needs to pass it.

With the gift of hindsight, his actions during the election make a lot more sense. He had this massive russian thing he was working on at the same time he was investigating the leaks to Guliani. Rudy, and thus Trump and the Russians had the info about weiner's laptop. He had no choice but write his letter to congress about it and he obviously couldn't come out and say why.

We didn't know that Comey specifically was overseeing investigation into FBI leaks going to Rudy. As soon as the FBI got Weiner's laptop the Trump people knew about it and the emails. Had Comey not said anything, Trump and/or Russia would have.
